One of the joys – and believe me there are many – of being a photographer is seeing something happen with a client that you had no idea about. Do you follow? Sometimes, you’re taking family photos of a couple with their first child and discover later that the second is on the way. Or a family has gathered at a reunion and later, when a beloved member has passed, we all realize that the photos were the last. Time moves.
This is not that story though. This is business and a wonderful one at that. We photographed Ashley and Oscar’s wedding last year and fell in love with them and their story. Now, Ashley has created Orozco’s Christian Craft Shop and you can find them and Ashley’s amazing specialty work on Facebook.

A few weeks ago, we photographed another custom built home by MBI Builders LLC at the Blue Ridge Mountain Club in Blowing Rock NC. Talk about a gorgeous place ready to be filled with memories and stories…! This home has epic views out most of the windows (the views in our images look fake, but I promise you, they aren’t), and we had an “ordered from a catalog” day to shoot. This house is situated perfectly on the lot and depending on the room you’re in, you can feel like you’re in the treetops.
Some unique aspects are not only the views, though. The craftsman style wood work and custom cabinetry are perfectly hewn. All of the counter tops and inlays in the bathrooms and showers are made from concrete and custom created by MBI. Wood, concreate, and panorama surround you in every direction. All of the elements seemed to have voices of their own.The kitchen counter tops look like a blend of earth and sky, something you can see out any of the windows, and each room invites both a call to dream about adventure as well as a desire for comfort and rest. Once again, MBI knocked the cover off the ball and we loved being able to capture key images for their brand, their portfolio and the homeowners who will move into this wonderful space.

beep…………….. beep……………….. beep………………….. We live with this sound. It says “commerce,” it says “products on the move,” and “inventory,” “profits” and “revenue.” More often, to us, it says, “now it’s mine!!”
It is all but ambient noise these days. Our groceries are scanned, our large appliances are scanned, every shirt, shoe, toy …… and our phones scan, our business cards scan and each is singular. Each bar code or QR code takes you to a specific place and time, a web address, conveyor belt, product, pallet and date, and usually all of these – right down to the person who made the actual product code. Did you know that the FDA is now able to take a single pill and lead it back not just to the very pharmaceutical it is, but to who manufactured it, when it was created, which doctor prescribed it and which drug store sold it? Well they can. Seriously.
Pixels got a call from Anomaly Technical Marketing about taking some photos for an upcoming promotional series for Hitachi America located in Charlotte, NC. Hitachi needed commercial photos for some collateral Anomaly was creating – brochures and other materials and we were more than happy to jump in.
Commercial photography is a different beast requiring a totally different approach. It’s more about the product and its uses rather than the emotion of our portraits of people and pets. But we love the chance to capture the inanimate parts of our world for both commercial promotions and in other graphic design applications.
