Baby Tinleigh York was born a mere few weeks after we shot Mom Lindsey’s maternity session. In fact, they hadn’t even seen the images when Tinleigh made her debut. She was early, but she arrived just in time, as far as father Mitch is concerned. If you read our blog about her maternity shoot, you’ll learn that this is family largely comprised of boys. There are practically no daughters on either side of the family, so there was an almost disbelief that this child was actually going to be a little girl.
The Yorks came back to our studio and we took their first official portrait as a family of five in our portrait garden and then moved inside to capture Tate and Turner with their new girl in pink.
Couple of fun items to mention: Dad Mitch shared that he honestly didn’t think that the baby was a girl until he saw her. That’s how accustomed this family is to giving birth to and raising boys! When you think your doctor might be wrong! Now, we love watching him with Tinleigh. He adores his boys, but he is a goner when it comes to his baby girl.
And Disney played a role in this shoot. According to Lindsey and Mitch (and the calendar), Miss Tinleigh was conceived during a trip to Disney World. Thanks, Uncle Walt, for the pixie dust! So of course, we incorporated Mickey and Minnie Mouse into the photos.
Lindsey is thrilled to be able to branch out with her color palette after focusing so much on Turner and Tate who are, by anyone’s measuring stick, ALL BOY. Pink, rose and cream are a part of her room, so I made sure to choose complimentary props from Lindsey’s new stash and our own Pixels store room.
Sweet girl: you were wished for, wanted and are now loved beyond words. We’re going to love celebrating you every step of the way. Here’s to many more sessions with you and your adoring family and to a childhood filled with laughter, love and all things girlie!

Boy number 3.
The Pierce family have welcomed their newest child, another son. No, his name is not Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor – as cute and succinct as that is. And Congrats to Meghan and Harry Windsor and so on and so forth, but this little brunette with the serious face is Roman Pierce. No offense, but he rivals any kid I’ve seen recently. Just look at him. It’s hard to interpret the expression. Maybe he knows that two older brothers await him – Holden and Sawyer. They seem sweet, but maybe Roman knows innately that wrestling and clobbering and dog piles are in his future. Lay low, dude. It will find you eventually.
Roman was born on March 7th, and after a short minute at the hospital, he visited our portrait studio for his first photographs. He was an angel, perfectly comfortable in any pose, prop and backdrop. I recalled his oldest brother Holden dressed in gear that remembered their dad’s flight gear.
Mom Traci is a pharmacist and she provided the wooden mortar and pestle we used for Roman’s session. It made a perfect spot for him to grab some zzzzzzs. I love his facial expression in the left image. “Who are you?” “And any chance you could score a Coke Zero for me? I’m having a hard time staying awake.”
We’ll be photographing sweet Roman for his first year, including 6 month portraits and his first birthday. We cannot wait to see him grow a bit and watch him with his brothers. For now……….. ssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Would you like to know more about getting ready for baby portraits? Here’s a start.

Barrett Spillman was born to Elisabeth & Isaac Spillman. We had the pleasure of photographing their gorgeous wedding (a fun story behind that one too) and are now loving their new little man.
These new parents are perfectly smitten with him, and they should be.
Like his father, Barrett is going to grow up loving the outdoors and may also become a great hunter one day too. I know his dad has dreams for his son, but right now it’s more about sleeping through the night and growing up strong. Ryan and I were happy to pass along some of our Finley’s already outgrown camo attire, though.
Since this couple loves to be outside and loves nature, we decided to keep the attire and props to earthy neutral colors, with simple softs furs and adorable little bib overalls for his portraits.
Moms-to-be: we keep all of this stuff on hand, clean and ready to go so that new Mamas don’t have one more thing to stress about.
Welcome, Barrett to a new world of adventure, outdoor play, snuggles from your parents (grandparents and all of their friends) and something amazing every single day. We love you already!

“Babies smile in their sleep because they’re listening to the whispering of angels.” – Author unknown
This little angel is Leo Orozco and we had the pleasure of not only photographing his parents – Ashley and Oscar – for their engagement and wedding portraits – but his first portraits just about a week after he was born in April.
And yes, he is feeling his developing bicep.
“His little hands stole my heart,
his little feet ran away with it.” – Joshua Riley
It’s going to be so much fun watching this multi-cultural little man grow up surrounded by his loving family and the strong community within their church.

From the downiest bit of hair fluff that smells indescribably baby and yet something only J.R.R. Tolkien could describe – something elves or fairies make – to their feet that manage to wrap like rising pretzel dough – newborn babies are the closest thing to heaven. They are intoxicating, which is why you see mothers, aunts, grandmothers and countless others holding a newborn, then rolling their eyes into the back of their heads while sniffing and cuddling. You see a newborn being held, the head is supported, but mostly what they are doing is smelling that perfect newborn head scent of unadulterated yum.
The feet really are too much. There are wrinkles and ridiculously small nails and they twist and turn, based on how they were in utero, into impossible shapes that can fit in your mouth. Find a baby’s foot and maybe a little clarified butter (and a decoy) and you’ve got snack time.
What is he thinking about? Warmth? Peeing?
What I always think about is scale. It’s important to capture the beginning and it’s hard to miss the study in contract between his little head and his father’s hand supporting it… the size of his fist next to his father’s fingers. They’ll never be able to create that again and I love capturing it during that one moment.
While we’re settling in with our own newborn masterpiece (forgive me, but he’s pretty perfect) and preparing for the holidays, I’m holding my newborn close and thinking of the newborns I’ve photographed, the exhausted parents who are in love with them, and how I know the time will fly. I’m wishing rest and peace for us all.
