The more spring I can smell in the air, the more my mind goes to spring events and the season that brings us Easter, flowering trees, voracious house cleaning, veggie planting and, of course, PROM.
Students at Wilkes County schools are buying their gowns, renting their tuxes, making dinner and limo reservations, so the planning is already well underway. You WILL need photos and Pixels on Paper has nearly two decades of prom portraiture experience. We’re ready if you are.
Our outdoor portrait garden is a perfect place to take prom photos of you ladies in your gowns, with your dates or best friends, or to get images perfect for social media of your entire high school clan. When possible, we can also shoot images in our favorite orchard or on location if you have something special in mind.
As you make the other plans for your prom weekend, call us to book your photo session. If you have a stylized shoot or theme in mind, we’re in! Invite your pals and let us capture a milestone event that only happens a couple of times in your life!
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

The movie, Pretty in Pink was a massive hit in the ’80s, which means that only the moms of kids going to prom this year will know what I’m talking about. Molly Ringwald and her not-as-cool friends struggle with the usual high school angst that comes to a crescendo at ….. wait for it …… the PROM. The fashions in the movie do not hold up over time, but the story does. High school is a wondrous, complicated, anxiety-producing, profound and fleeting time in life. You can’t grow up without going through it, so you just dive in and have as much fun as possible between exams. Which leads me to: It’s prom season again and time to book your portraits.
Our job – and privilege – is to capture you and your friends dressed to the nines, laughing, having fun and celebrating the fact that spring is coming, followed by prom, followed by SUMMER! Whether it’s on location (like this orchard we love), in our studio or outside in our portrait garden, we’re booking sessions and look forward to seeing you all and taking portraits that you’ll love and look back on with fondness.
This photo session from 2015 was particularly fun, because of the bohemian theme and styling with chic dresses and accessories for our models, the blossoms on the trees, the props and the girls themselves.
For Hannah, Molly and Erica, dresses, shoes, and accessories were provided by BeYoutiful Prom by Bridal Traditions. The flower crown and corsages were provided by Innovative Occasions. And not all of the pictures we take are of girls in pink surrounded by flowers, folks. Here’s a look at a bit from last year…
We’ll be creating orchard portraits like these again this year! Weather permitting, we’ll schedule them for the first week of April. Times and sessions in the orchard are limited, so please book now. And if you’re not going to prom but want to take advantage of the orchard this time of year for family portraits, a bridal or engagement session or portraits of your kids, let us know ASAP and we’ll get you in our books.

We had the opportunity again this year to participate with six other special event vendors in Wilkesboro and be the sole provider of photography for the 2nd annual All About Prom event. For two weeks in December representatives from each of five Wilkes County high schools competed on Facebook to be selected as the Prom Model to represent their school. Winners were given a full day of glamour, pampering and the high fashion model experience in exchange for representing all that the event sponsors have to offer in the latest prom fashions and services. Each girl was fitted with two complete glamorous wardrobes by Bridal Traditions Wedding and Prom attire that included dress, shoes, and jewelry accessories. Intricate matching nail design using everything from crystals to glitter were created by Valery Guevara of Blossom Salon & Butterfly Boutique. Dominique Nunn also of Blossom Salon transformed each girl with glamour makeup, sometimes incorporating feathers and sequins, that was uniquely created to coordinate with the formal dresses they would be wearing. Andrea Hunt of Cut Ups Salon styled each model’s hair using fashion forward techniques that were ahead of the trends. The finishing touch added to each model as she entered our studio portrait sets were unique floral accessories designed by Denise Brooks of Innovative Occasions. Denise took the old tradition of corsage and boutonnieres to a whole new level. What’s a fashion photo shoot without a professional videographer on set? Shaun Cardwell of Divine Treasures Videography captured moving images and created a stunning short film of the day.Three completely custom photo backdrops were designed at the Pixels On Paper portrait studio. Ryan and Misty both took turns all day photographing each model and making each one truly experience the Pixels On Paper difference both on set and later when seeing their final photos. Pixels offers unique and creative portrait photography. Forget about those horribly traditional photos made during prom where they make you say cheese and place you in a stiff traditional pose. Pixels will make sure you have a blast getting great photos that make you feel and look like a Rock Star or High Fashion Model.
