… even during scary times. There are still birthdays and graduations and friendships in need of highlighting. We need to celebrate even in the era of a global pandemic. We value our health and we value our customers, so when we were able to safely photograph this momentous occasion, we grabbed the opportunity.
Big R Orchards, a popular wedding and event venue in Moravian Falls, NC was the spot and everyone who came that day had such great energy. This happens when you get people who love each other together and when folks have been pinned up for months.
Most proms were cancelled this year, but dresses were purchased and friends wanted to get dressed up and made up and see one another.
I mean, seriously, are those above not the most dapper and darling individuals you’ve seen lately? They can still look back on this crazy year and have a glamorous memento or two.
We also celebrated birthdays and family time with members all dolled up and happy to be outdoors and with each other.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborns and families, special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

The more spring I can smell in the air, the more my mind goes to spring events and the season that brings us Easter, flowering trees, voracious house cleaning, veggie planting and, of course, PROM.
Students at Wilkes County schools are buying their gowns, renting their tuxes, making dinner and limo reservations, so the planning is already well underway. You WILL need photos and Pixels on Paper has nearly two decades of prom portraiture experience. We’re ready if you are.
Our outdoor portrait garden is a perfect place to take prom photos of you ladies in your gowns, with your dates or best friends, or to get images perfect for social media of your entire high school clan. When possible, we can also shoot images in our favorite orchard or on location if you have something special in mind.
As you make the other plans for your prom weekend, call us to book your photo session. If you have a stylized shoot or theme in mind, we’re in! Invite your pals and let us capture a milestone event that only happens a couple of times in your life!

Sharing is caring.
In this case, Priscilla and Bo are sharing their prom experience and going with each other to their prospective special nights. Pretty sweet, huh? This means two dresses, two tuxes, two dinners and two big parties for this pair. Not a bad deal at all, now that I’ve typed it out and reread it. Why did no one call me and Ryan to, …..I dunno…. chaperone or choose the best dessert at dinner?
Priscilla is a graduating senior at North Wilkes High School and Bo is a Super Senior at Wilkes Early College. Priscilla’s Mom had the forethought to contact me prior to these prom dates in order to work out the best dates to capture photos.
Lucky for them, Bo’s prom night was first date on the calendar and during peak bloom period in the peach orchards. The plan was born from that. The couple looked stunning surrounded by blooms.
Despite how many times in my life that I’ve heard that red heads don’t look good in pink, I beg to differ. Priscilla is proof that gingers shine. Gingers in that we’ve photographed in the orchard are among the most beautiful portraits.
We’ve got loads of orchard photos to share in the coming weeks, so consider this the first taste!

We don’t preach politics from this blog. We don’t preach, period. Our core values, we hope, show up in our work and the way we live our lives. Even if we weren’t parents, the loss of the lives of children is a heartbreak like no other. I cannot imagine racing to a schoolyard with Ryan to wait to see if our kid emerged from a building…. if Finley James would appear on a list later to be read at a memorial. And I’ll just stop there. Our prayers have been sent to Florida since we heard the news last week and my mind wanders the way a new mother’s does when kids make the headlines…
We want, with this particular blog post, to celebrate children. They will forge and become the true 21st century and what community feels like. They may wriggle around, or show shyness, diffidence, disinterest, be squirrelly, silly or just distracted during portrait sessions, but WE LOVE taking photos of children – of all ages. [Our apologies to the teens in this blog who are cringing at the “children” header.]
Here are some favorites from over the years that spring to mind.
One of the greatest joys really is watching from behind the lens as kids navigate all phases of life. I look at each of these faces and can remember the photo session, but also the child/kid/baby/graduating senior and how she or he was that day. I especially love knowing that I’ll see some of them again … older, wiser, goofier, figuring whatever of life’s puzzles is in their lap that day.
God’s gift of Finley to us has heightened this for me as a photographer. Any of those kids could be Finley and all of these kids could have been in that school in Florida. They’re all precious. They all deserve our love and care and it’s a distinct pleasure to be the one to make sure their families have portraits of them to remember each precious moment.

We are blessed to have exclusive access to a favorite orchard where every year, the ground hog comes out of his hole, looks for his shadow and, ……wait, wrong seasonal moment. This is about how Pixels has (yes!) exclusive photography rights to one of the most beautiful orchards in NC. Each year, we photograph generations of families, children, lovely girls in prom gowns, brides, the newly engaged and anyone else in love with spring and light and heirloom photos. We look at the Farmers Almanac, talk to our pals at the orchard, read the tea leaves, say a prayer and then head out. Sort of. But this year will be no different and it’s time to book your orchard session for 2017.
This year we’ll be taking portraits from March 11-18th, but dates will ultimately be determined by the weather and when the trees bloom. I’ll save the riff on climate change and how much I love to sled in the winter and just say that this unexpected warm weather may speed the process. Sessions are limited and only available one week per year and these are the dates we think will be the best.
COUPLE OF QUICK NOTES:
+ These sessions will last one hour.
+ We will provide you with unlimited images photographed.
+ Your pre-paid $135 fee reserves your session and is NOT refundable.
+ No digital files or prints are included in this session. All finished images will be available for viewing during your PreView Order session. You can purchase prints or digital files of your choice. Prints start at $12.
+ All orchard sessions are in Wilkes County.
+ For additional details email Misty at mail@pixelsonpaper.net or call 336-990-0080
For this year’s bookings, please contact me at mail@pixelsonpaper.net to make your reservation. We would love to photograph you or a group of those you love in honor of spring, summer, Easter, prom, an upcoming graduation or anniversary or any other important occasion you’re celebrating, including – just because.
