The more spring I can smell in the air, the more my mind goes to spring events and the season that brings us Easter, flowering trees, voracious house cleaning, veggie planting and, of course, PROM.
Students at Wilkes County schools are buying their gowns, renting their tuxes, making dinner and limo reservations, so the planning is already well underway. You WILL need photos and Pixels on Paper has nearly two decades of prom portraiture experience. We’re ready if you are.
Our outdoor portrait garden is a perfect place to take prom photos of you ladies in your gowns, with your dates or best friends, or to get images perfect for social media of your entire high school clan. When possible, we can also shoot images in our favorite orchard or on location if you have something special in mind.
As you make the other plans for your prom weekend, call us to book your photo session. If you have a stylized shoot or theme in mind, we’re in! Invite your pals and let us capture a milestone event that only happens a couple of times in your life!
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Somehow, after all of these years and too many collaborations to count, we’ve never blogged about Bridal Traditions as a beloved and favorite vendor and partner of ours. Kelly Shumate, the owner of BT, is a dear friend and not only have we worked with her, but for her, creating her custom logo and branding.
We also took her wedding renewal portraits in one of the more unique and beautiful sessions we’ve had with a bride and groom. Honestly, that’s the word for Kelly and the options and perspective she provides to her customers at Bridal Traditions and beYOUtiful Proms – unique. Kelly built her business from the ground up starting with a vision but only working at it part-time. She found gowns for weddings, provided dresses and accessories for proms, and later participated in prom campaigns like All About Prom where she could supply the right attire to each lady. By 2008, with no debt (NO. DEBT.) and a storefront, Kelly left her other job and became fulltime owner, operator and visionary for BT.Kelly is fun to collaborate with because she brings so many creative and clever options to the table when we’re the photographers for a particular promotion or event. You can have the word “Traditions” in your business name and still be modern, fun and completely distinct.
Every bride, every prom attendee wants to be and look remarkable. You like Scarlett O’Hara? Kelly and her team have got ya. Love The Great Gatsby? Done. Bohemian Chic? She can make you into that perfect gypsy. We look forward to many more years of working with Kelly and her amazing retail operations at Bridal Traditions and beYOUtiful Prom Attire.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. The movie, Pretty in Pink was a massive hit in the ’80s, which means that only the moms of kids going to prom this year will know what I’m talking about. Molly Ringwald and her not-as-cool friends struggle with the usual high school angst that comes to a crescendo at ….. wait for it …… the PROM. The fashions in the movie do not hold up over time, but the story does. High school is a wondrous, complicated, anxiety-producing, profound and fleeting time in life. You can’t grow up without going through it, so you just dive in and have as much fun as possible between exams. Which leads me to: It’s prom season again and time to book your portraits.
Our job – and privilege – is to capture you and your friends dressed to the nines, laughing, having fun and celebrating the fact that spring is coming, followed by prom, followed by SUMMER! Whether it’s on location (like this orchard we love), in our studio or outside in our portrait garden, we’re booking sessions and look forward to seeing you all and taking portraits that you’ll love and look back on with fondness.
This photo session from 2015 was particularly fun, because of the bohemian theme and styling with chic dresses and accessories for our models, the blossoms on the trees, the props and the girls themselves.
For Hannah, Molly and Erica, dresses, shoes, and accessories were provided by BeYoutiful Prom by Bridal Traditions. The flower crown and corsages were provided by Innovative Occasions. And not all of the pictures we take are of girls in pink surrounded by flowers, folks. Here’s a look at a bit from last year…
We’ll be creating orchard portraits like these again this year! Weather permitting, we’ll schedule them for the first week of April. Times and sessions in the orchard are limited, so please book now. And if you’re not going to prom but want to take advantage of the orchard this time of year for family portraits, a bridal or engagement session or portraits of your kids, let us know ASAP and we’ll get you in our books.

It’s nearly prom season, people. Do you hear me?? PROM SEASON.
Do you remember yours? Most of us sweated over asking someone or being asked, finding the right dress or renting a tux, where to go before and after, borrowing the family car or renting a limo. Maybe you got ready with friends and double dated or you had a steady boy or girlfriend to plan with. Well, maybe you have teens in the throws of these Big Decisions and we’re here to help. This group of glamorous and hammy students (and certified pals) from Wilkes Early College High School decided to do it up right with a photo session at our studio.
Needless to say, with regard to feeling and tone, it was a dead heat between glamour and silliness. We loved watching them interact both in the studio and in our outdoor portrait garden. They were clearly excited and it brought back memories for us. At Pixels we talk a lot about creating memories, but honestly that is the point afterall if you do what we do. We are not overseas in a war zone or chasing stories for the media. But we are blessed to be documenting moments — moments that our clients will look back on with fondness, laughter, the “Oh my Lord – look at my hair!” facial expressions and all the while recounting the memories attached to each shot.
We hope this crew feels this way about their pics. “We love these.” “One day I’ll show these to my own kids…. maybe.”
Studio photos for prom start at only $55 per person. Grab your date or a group of pals and let us create and capture your 2015 prom. Now’s the time!
