Congratulations to our first annual Charlotte Trophy Bride Contest Winners who are now married! Back in April 2010 Erin and Brad were the first winning couple of our fun contest, racking up a total of 223 votes and new Pixels On Paper facebook fans. It was a sure sign of how much fun we were going to have with these two along with their friends and family over the next 15 months. Words can’t even describe how much we love this couple.
They came to us specifically requesting photos that captured their style, a preference of more contemporary rather than traditional. Including more architectural and modern backdrops rather than natural landscapes. This was an easy task based on the surroundings of their uptown Charlotte ceremony and reception locations and our love for this style as well. We found several new spots where we had never photographed before and successfully accomplished a few new techniques that delivered our style of creative photography for their wedding photos all while having a lot of fun.
All the details surrounding the entire day of course came together with the help of some amazing local wedding vendors. A huge shout out goes to Rachel Samuelson and her staff at the Holiday Inn Center City Charlotte, Kelsey Bunzey for makeup, Amanda Pagano of Isabel’s Corner Videography and Beth with All The Right Grooves.
Photography is technically all about capturing light and shadows. During a wedding we have less opportunity to look for that perfect light as we would during a portrait session primarily due to the fast pace and set time-line. However occasionally when the fates are smiling on us we get to see an un-orchestrated moment just like the one below. When a story unfolds in the perfect light.
A beautiful ceremony at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Photographers and videographers are not allowed downstairs during the ceremony at Covenant and only allowed to take minimal photos from the balcony during the ceremony. The above stunning shot came just in time before the doors were quickly shut with the light hitting Erin perfectly.
Unlike any other exit we have ever photographed, Erin and Brad received a rally towel send-off in true Tar Heel fashion.

There are so many things we love about Erin, most of which is her gorgeous smile and just being in her company. It’s contagious. She has this energy about her that makes you feel at ease and smile right along with her. She even managed to get us caught up in the daily wedding count-down! The opportunity to photograph her bridal photos gave us that much more time to feel her joy and her excitement. She was positively glowing from the moment she sat down in the makeup chair and then radiating even more joy when she slipped into the dress.
On her own, Erin opted for a more natural photo location knowing that she had chosen modern and urban settings for their engagement photos and wedding day. Mikah Leon at the US National Whitewater Center gave us free reign to do our thing. If you are around Erin any length of time you will find out she is a huge HUGE Tar Heels fan. She came to our shoot with more Carolina Blue props than I could even imagine along with a special little Lady Bug that now holds a very sentimental place in our heart.
Since Erin married her “Sugar Butt” on Saturday we can now happily share our creative photography style in these bridal photos. Thanks Erin for sharing your joy. Enjoy!
This next bridal photo was Erin’s favorite that she displayed at the wedding reception.
Erin and Brad had rally towels custom printed for wedding guests to use during their wedding reception exit. Wait until you see the photo of them in use!
Erin’s makeup was done on site by the wonderful Kelsey Bunzey. In case you missed our earlier post on Kelsey’s work, check it out again here.
Other thanks go to:
Mikah Leon at the US National Whitewater Center for letting us shot on location and photograph many of their weddings.

Rachel and Ryan were married during a beautiful outdoor setting in the labyrinth at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilkesboro. Their love for each other, family, and ASU were evident everywhere, especially in the hand-made details. Surrounded by so many close friends and getting to know them and their family over the past year made it easy for us to get caught up in the excitement.
The gorgeous yellow flower arrangements were designed by Desi’s Floral and Design Studio.
Every emotion possible from laughter to tears were displayed during their very personal ceremony.
A very lively reception followed in the St. Paul’s Parrish Hall. Cake design by Teresa Greene of Magical Memories.
In case you missed it, be sure to check out Rachel and Ryan’s earlier ASU inspired Engagement Photos in our Facebook post and Rachel’s Bridal Photos on the blog. We wish these two a lifetime of happiness together.

Each trip back to Leatherwood Mountains to photograph a mountain wedding is just as special as the first. Before the land was a resort and the old log cabin was a visitor’s center, it was simply mountains, farm land, and a home to members of Misty’s family. We try to capture the history and a bit of that sentimental value for each couple that have decided to exchange their vows in this beautiful portion of Wilkes County.
Recently Abbie, Leatherwood’s awesome wedding coordinator, has created all inclusive wedding packages for everything from an intimate setting for two people in a meadow to an elaborate wedding celebration for guests of a hundred or more. It’s a brilliant idea and especially great for those that are just to busy to be occupied with all the details of a wedding. Andrea and Mike, from Garner, NC took advantage of all Leatherwood and Abbie’s packages had to offer for their destination wedding. What initially was planned as an outdoor ceremony in front of the cabin’s rock chimney was moved inside one of many gorgeous mountain homes due to rain. Set on top of a peak, in front of a 30 foot wall of windows overlooking a picturesque scene of rolling mountains, they still had an incredible backdrop.
We’re happy to share these wedding pictures from Andrea & Mike’s mountain wedding and look forward to our next return to Leatherwood.

We met Olivia almost three years ago when photographing her sister’s wedding. It is always a pleasure being invited back to photograph another family member. Getting to know families and seeing them grow is one of the greatest perks of our job. James and Olivia’s setting at Grassy Creek Vineyard provided amazing outdoor wedding pictures. Surrounded by a wedding party made up of childhood friends, college roommates, and Westpoint classmates, it was a day filled with laughter, tears, and fun until the very end. Southern hospitality, charming outdoor elegance, and military formality only begins to describe their wedding day.
We wish James and Olivia infinite years of bliss. We are truly grateful for them allowing us the honor of capturing their wedding day.
