Gage Eldridge Senior Portraits | Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers

It’s nice to be part of a pack and the Eldridge boys are that. We’ve photographed them, along with their Mom, Stacy several times over the last decade. You get out your camera and you’re shoulder-deep in testosterone, conversations about hunting, being outside, riding dirt bikes and growing up on a family farm.

Gage Eldridge is a senior in high school this year, and like most guys in his late teens, he isn’t a fan of having his picture taken. What he is willing to do is bow to his Mom’s wishes. GOOD MAN.

I’ll end the suspense and tell you that it’s Ryan. There were no girls allowed, no frills, no extra nonsense and mussing. It was just a couple of guys hanging out on a farm, having guy talk and taking photos in between. It’s the most comfortable environment and makes for the most natural portraits. Wilkesboro, Elkin, Hamptonville NC Outdoor Male Senior Portrait Photography Pixels On Paper Photographers PhotoWilkesboro, Elkin, Hamptonville NC Outdoor Male Senior Portrait Photography Pixels On Paper Photographers PhotoWilkesboro, Elkin, Hamptonville NC Outdoor Male Senior Portrait Photography Pixels On Paper Photographers PhotoGage has practically grown up working, hunting and riding dirt bikes on this family farm in Hamptonville NC so it only seemed appropriate that it be the location for his senior portraits. Don’t be fooled thinking this guy is all farm boy. Check out his favorite floral print shirt! Enjoy your Senior year, Gage. commercial prom portraits for Bridal Traditions

Recently we were hired by good friend and fellow wedding aficionado, Kelly of BeYOUtiful Prom Boutique at Bridal Traditions to take some commercial fashion photos for her. We go way back with Kelly and with her amazing business, so we were jazzed to jump in and do our part to help her as she prepares her marketing materials for 2018’s prom season. We photographed model and real junior-prom attendee Stacie Shumate in her actual prom gown purchased from BeYOUtiful Prom. The fashion shoot took place in our outdoor portrait garden at the Pixels’ studio in Wilkesboro. We photographed Stacie’s portraits just three short years ago in the peach orchards and can’t believe how much she has changed in such a short time. It was a pleasure and a treat! Thanks for letting us be a part of your business and life and for letting us watch you grow Stacie.Stacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoWe love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. a photography workshop shines a light in the dark places

Toward the end of March, I struck out on my own and took a leap outside of my comfort zone to attend a photography workshop and retreat. I love perfecting my craft, learning new techniques, comparing notes, etc., and we all need professional renewal, regardless of what we do. The invitation promised a focus on wedding photography, mastering and using lighting and exposure, and connecting with both your clients and your own desires in life. Tricks of the trade meets self-help meets community and introspection. I’d made excuses for not going in the past and this had an extra element of trepidation – spending 4 days in a house with 9 other women, all strangers. But what’s growth without a bit of surrendering to the unknown?Exposed Photography Workshop and Styled Photoshoot Photos by Misty McGuire Case of Pixels On PaperExposed Photography Workshop and Styled Photoshoot Photos by Misty McGuire Case of Pixels On PaperExposed Photography Workshop and Styled Photoshoot Photos by Misty McGuire Case of Pixels On PaperThis retreat was hosted by Elly’s Photography and I’ve been a fan of her work for years… another incentive: meet a fellow traveler, working photographer, wife, business woman. As it turns out, Elly’s really a life coach in addition to wonderful photographer and I found that my need to stretch was more important than my fears of hanging with strangers – without Ryan – in a house for 4 days. I needed it more than I knew. She asked questions about what I wanted to learn, what I wanted to see change in our business, how I wanted to connect with our clients. But then there were even harder questions. What are you really passionate about, what drives you, where do you see yourself in 5, 10, 15 years, what is your impact? I did work in “Clearing,” “Dream Casting,” and communication exercises. Photography is easy for me, the personal stuff can be really hard and at times very emotional.

I needed someone to ask me the hard questions. I needed my creativity to be reawakened, to have a new perspective. I needed to have more tools in my tool box to offer our clients. I needed to be surrounded by 9 other creative people that felt the same as me. I ended up having a blast and learning a lot about myself.Exposed Photography Workshop and Styled Photoshoot Photos by Misty McGuire Case of Pixels On PaperExposed Photography Workshop and Styled Photoshoot Photos by Misty McGuire Case of Pixels On PaperExposed Photography Workshop and Styled Photoshoot Photos by Misty McGuire Case of Pixels On PaperThe best part is that, through all of the personal aspects of the retreat, it was mixed with learning new ways of using my camera and seeing both natural and artificial light differently. Over the past 8 years I’ve become very comfortable with using artificial lighting for photography. I can manipulate light to be what I need it to be in almost any situation. This is a good thing. In fact, Ryan often jokes that I always wish I had one more light to add to the scene no matter how many I have. But what I found during the first half of our workshop is that I had stopped looking at natural light the same way. Natural light can be manipulated. It can be found in sources and locations I have ignored. All of the portrait photos in this blog use natural light and it’s not necessarily sunlight. The dark dramatic head shot photos for example were taken in a bathroom stall with a single overhead light on. The photos are not altered or changed in Photoshop at all. They’re straight out of my camera. I am newly empowered and so excited about using what I’ve learned during portrait photography, weddings, events, day in the life shoots and elsewhere. Exposed Photography Workshop and Styled Photoshoot Photos by Misty McGuire Case of Pixels On PaperThe next blog will be a continuance of this one, so stay tuned!

celebrating sisters & their families ~ outdoor portraits

It’s always an honor to be asked to take portraits of people from my hometown or from my childhood. You think about where you are in life and remember how far you’ve come — how far we’ve all come over the years. It shouldn’t take a wedding, a funeral or a reunion to make you stop and breathe in that we’ve grown up, survived, are working to be better people and are continuing to grow and march forward into whatever is next.
I really was excited to be photographing these two sisters – Jennifer and Julie Huffman – who are now married and with sons and daughters of their own. You feel simultaneously mature and like a girl again when you get together and start gabbing and wandering, as we did on their family’s farm.

I grew up with the Huffman girls, but was truly friends with the younger sister Jenny. Oh my gosh you guys, there was this one time………….
just kidding! Jenny and I were friends all through elementary and high school. We were just one grade apart and we spent time at each others homes playing when we were little and then later we rode to school together and, as we got older, we’d go out together on Fridays and Saturdays to see friends or “cruise” around. Her older sister Julie, I’m sure, thought that we were insufferable, because that is sort of the job of siblings: be annoying right up to the point of driving someone crazy and then retreating.

These portraits were taken in the fall on family property with the idea of giving them as Christmas gifts and keeping them as heirlooms. My hope is that they will continue to look at them and smile as their own children grow up, see them as markers in time and certainly as great memories. Spring is coming fast and we’re booking our orchard sessions. Contact me via email (mail@pixelsonpaper.net) to reserve a spot from March 11 – 18.

Winter Outdoor Family Portraits ~ the Graybeals

Experts say repeatedly that couples should remember to put their marriage first, even when kiddies come along — sometimes especially when the kids come along. You have to remember why you fell in love and what you give each other and that marriages that last come from a unified couple. Ryan and I totally embrace this concept and demonstrated it recently when we photographed the Graybeal family. We made a point of capturing just Mom and Dad. They were once, after all, just Crystal and Adam.

We last photographed Crystal and Adam Graybeal for their wedding. Now, seven years later, there are two boys, big brother Colton and seven month old Landon. It’s pretty special to see and photograph them now as a family unit. As I mentioned though, getting new photos of just Crystal and Adam together again was a must. So many couples once they become parents neglect having photos with each other. We think it’s just as important to document the heads of the household for future generations as it is to photograph the unit as a whole.outdoor family portraits lenior nc by pixels on paper wilkesboro photographers family pictures child photos portrait photography photooutdoor family portraits lenior nc by pixels on paper wilkesboro photographers family pictures child photos portrait photography photooutdoor family portraits lenior nc by pixels on paper wilkesboro photographers family pictures child photos portrait photography photoIt didn’t feel like 7 years had passed since we got to hang with Crystal and Adam. The fun, laughs and teasing seemed to pick back up right where we left off. This time we were able to make friends with the new “little Graybeals.” Colton was a little shy upon first meeting us. After a few clicks of the shutter though, Ryan took him on a little exploration adventure through the nature trails, and that kid was shy no more. We were now a part of his entourage. As for wee one Landon, he won us over with his drooling grins and very expressive eye brows.outdoor family portraits lenior nc by pixels on paper wilkesboro photographers family pictures child photos portrait photography photooutdoor family portraits lenior nc by pixels on paper wilkesboro photographers family pictures child photos portrait photography photooutdoor family portraits lenior nc by pixels on paper wilkesboro photographers family pictures child photos portrait photography photooutdoor family portraits lenior nc by pixels on paper wilkesboro photographers family pictures child photos portrait photography photo

We love a winter photo shoot and seeing the strength of good couple and their growing family out in it. Much love to burgeoning family units out there and forget the seven year itch! Love that works never gets old.
