Hey All! We’ve been enjoying our summer and will continue to until the very end. I would say bitter end, but summer is wonderful and so is autumn. It’s way more sweet than bitter.
We hope you are living large too! Get your ice cream, go camping and tubing, have family reunions, read those books that have been stacking up and get some rest. I said so.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s do a little thinking about the fall and for rising seniors, it means portraits. Below are some of our favorite senior images from over the years, so let this be a nudge to be thinking about location, wardrobe, your schedule and if you would like for these to be part of holiday card, graduation party invitation, given as holiday gifts, blown up life size so that parents can pretend to talk to you after you’ve flown the coop……………. I think there is a pill or therapy for that, but I won’t share it in this blog.
Casual, prom ready, or a variety of wardrobe choices – it’s entirely up to you. The Blue Ridge Parkway, a club golf course, our outdoor portrait garden, your family’s backyard, the same is true of location. Pick where you want to be and we’ll be there!
Senior Portrait blog Part II is coming with more images (and ideas) to share. But if you want to see more from these sessions check out Maddie Roberts, Gage Eldridge and Allison Elliott.

Recently, we blogged about a newly engaged couple – Courtney and Cody. They were engaged in this very orchard and on the very same day that we shot photos of the now bride-to-be’s family. The Parkers were all part of the “engagement plan” that allowed Cody to get down on one knee while Courtney was distracted.
This family not only cheered when she said yes, they wanted us to get photos of them as well. It was a gorgeous day, the right occasion and the perfect setting. I love it when a plan comes together!
The Parkers already planned to have us photograph their family portraits in the Tevepaugh peach orchard, and Courtney believed that was why they were all present. After Cody popped the question and got a YES, we were also able to celebrate and get the groom-to-be and family portraits as well. Mom Kim especially wanted to carpe diem because all of the lives of her kids are going in different directions. [Aside: You guys know how this story goes… and it’s why family portraits – from first birthdays to reunions decades later – matter so much.] With Courtney’s engagement, they are gaining another son in Cody; they have a son who is away at college, and the youngest daughter just turned 16 and is now driving and will be the next out of the house. What better time to capture everyone together! We will have the pleasure of being Courtney and Cody’s wedding photographers in the fall when they tie the knot and we’re already so excited. Between the planning and anticipation, we’re encouraging these two to take time to enjoy all the elements of this chapter of their lives. Courtney is going to be a beautiful bride and these photos below are the proof. Mom is happy to have recent portraits of her other two kids as well and we were happy to oblige. It doesn’t hurt that this is a very photogenic family.

Spring rain and recent warmer temps have given us all a raging case of The Yips.
The Yips – loosely defined – are a specific kind of excitement that comes from anticipation. Horses behind the gate at The Kentucky Derby have The Yips. You with me?
Spring for us means orchard photos, engagement portraits, our garden going crazy [we hope] and PROM SEASON. We know that girls and guys are thinking of who to ask and may have already chosen a theme, a color, a dress or some fun way to celebrate with friends on what is a favorite high school event and milestone.
High school ladies and gents: Do YOU have the Yips? Grab your best pals or your dates and book us to capture you looking gorgeous on the day and create a memory or two that will last forever! We’ll start photographing prom portraits in April, so that gives you a month to plan and get ready! We can’t wait to see how fab, fun and glam you will all look in your prom attire! Contact us and let’s get you scheduled.

So much goes into choosing your wedding gown and once you have, once you’ve heard The Love Theme from Romeo & Juliet and said Yes to the Dress and gone through the process of making it yours, etc. it’s’ time to schedule your portraits. Granted, you’ll have fittings and want to try it on and twirl around and work out your hair and flowers, but once you feel like you know the path, we want to be there to capture photos that will become heirlooms. And isn’t thinking about this and planning for it more fun navigating the multiple layers of clothing we all find ourselves in this January?
We live in a gorgeous part of the country and so many of our brides want their photos taken outside and it always makes sense. From the Biltmore House and areas around Asheville to Blowing Rock, Boone, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Moses Cone Manor, Charlotte, Charleston, personal homes and important locations that matter to you – there are many more options that the standard and staid portraits of old.
We’re already scheduling bridal portraits for the spring and summer, so contact us and let us help you scheme now so that you can have gorgeous heirloom portraits later.

I have a pal who finds hilarious pictures of her family from old portrait sessions and gives them as gifts each year, along with NEW portraits. It’s sort of a repurpose, re-gift, re-laugh about it. The time progression is its own reward along with her Mother’s laughter and recollections.
The York sons did something similar for Christmas last year, minus the goofy shots from the 1990s. These three men bought a family portrait session – a gift card from Pixels actually – and presented it to their parents, Mark & Denise York. The gift card was good for a family portrait of the entire York family, something they knew that their Mom had been wanting for a very long time.
Listen up, sons and daughters, especially if you’re looking for a Christmas or anniversary present for your parents: your mom and dad did all of that laundry, schlepped all of that sporting equipment, sewed quilted ballet bags to carry your point shoes, baked untold dozens of Toll House cookies, worked with paper mache, checked homework after 11 pm, wiped your rear end, taught you to drive and throw a football in a tight spiral and stood in line to buy toys you’ve long forgotten about …………… you with me? THEY EARNED IT.
Mrs. York cashed in her certificate at the end of August after undertaking the kind of coordination that would make the Pentagon cringe. She had 15 family members (4 generations) to pin down and she stuck the landing. On a gorgeous day at a picturesque family farm in North Wilkesboro, we met up with this crew and thank goodness for perfect weather. Finding another date would have been many more months in the making.
When we photograph families, extended families and multiple generations, we always capture a variety of combinations for the individual family units and the matriarchs and patriarchs who want everyone and all the time. Gift cards for photography are available for any occasion at all times but are especially popular at Christmas. If you’re interested, please contact us and we’ll start planning.
