“Please allow me to introduce myself.” A great Rolling Stones song begins that way and I’m running with it. The doldrums of January and February need tweaking into shape.
The more I watch the world shift and watch social media bind us together (and tear us apart ….), I see how some of us are working to find each other – maybe even find each other again – through simple introductions. Introductions are a beautiful thing. So consider this a brief online How Do You Do.
For those of you who may not know, there we are – on our wedding day in fact, August 2, 2003. Ryan Case is my husband, my best friend, my houseman, my baby-daddy, my darling, my co-conspirator and the man I run this business with. Pixels was born of shared interests and talents and a desire to work for myself. Want to know a little more about what fuels us? Here you go!
Ryan is a fabulous and skilled photographer, graphic designer and work horse. Great with tools, remodeling our century old house, and not at all shabby in the kitchen, he’s a keeper. I am a photographer, book lover, soft touch, explorer of moods and lighting, gardener, and always down for a newborn baby portrait session, and a nap (in no particular order). I believe in prayer and outdoor concerts.
Together, we are Pixels on Paper Photography and Graphic Design and have been since 2005. We love to work and play, travel and camp. We celebrate creativity, sound and music (c’mon MERLEFEST!!), families and their specific milestones and we are dedicated to being a part of our community.
In 2015, we threw a big 10th Anniversary Party with friends and family, something that we were unable to do in 2020 for our 15th. But we’ve been so pleased that over the last 15 years, our business has grown and changed.
For parents-to-be, the one year package allows us to capture images during the first two weeks, at 6 months and the first birthday portraits. These have become our favorites and families love them too. That first year flies by.
From Day in the Life sessions to family reunions to gatherings to mark special occasions, we embrace family photography. I would encourage you to search our blog under family to see the breadth of our work over the years.
We cover the commercial side of photography as well as the more personal and Ryan handles graphic design too. We love supporting small businesses and local ventures.
The addition of our son Finley changed so much for us and if you need a fix of cute pics of a pretty adorable ginger, follow us on social media. This little boy manages to keep us young.
More than anything, our goal is to capture forever those moments in our own lives, the moments in the life of a business, a community, and those fleeting moments in a family. As our business has changed (we only do very special requested weddings these days), these values continue to be a guiding light. If you have a milestone or just a notion for a photo shoot and would like to discuss it, we would be honored. We’re always for a bigger party, a full table and lots of connections.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborn and baby portraits, engagements and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Its’s a new year, and a new decade and businesses, like people, are looking for a refresh, an upgrade and some for a complete re-do to their brand identity.
Not all we do at Pixels is photography, as many of you know. Ryan has been a graphic designer and logo developer for coming on 2 decades. He has worked with existing brands to update their look and feel, and helped develop and create brand new custom visual marks for new businesses, important causes, organizations and special events.
At least two things need to happen for successful branding or the execution of a graphic design project:
The first is understanding the business (or event, organization, enterprise). Who are they?
What people do they hope to attract and what do those people care about? You want to pull your target audience in your direction and this means understanding who the targets are.
Ryan does this when he sits down with each and every new or existing client. He not only has the skill, but the intuition. He can help your business uncover goals, targets, obstacles, competitors and trends, and all of these are on the table with branding, rebranding or creating a new graphic design project.
Secondly, you will also need a graphic designer who understands the principles of color, form, the visual arts, how consumers “see” what is in the marketplace, and how to message about the brand visually.
If 2020 is the year to rebrand, redo business cards, create campaign materials, we hope you’ll reach out. Even if you’re just starting to think about it, now is the time to begin.
If you’re a new business, a start-up or relatively new entrepreneur just trying to put your identity out there with a visual vocabulary, please reach out. We can walk you through the steps and create something that will serve you and your goals.
If you want to learn more about our graphic design and branding work, please check out these projects. We’d love to work with you.

Pixels recently created a logo for Peak Performance Heating & Air and we must say, the clients love it and we do too. My partner in life, business, child-rearing, house maintenance, travel, gardening and love, Ryan, is pretty good at this whole branding, logo and graphic design thing.
Our pal Trista, who we know from the wedding industry in Wilkes, contacted us about doing a logo for her aunt and uncle’s business, Peak Performance. It was time for an update to their existing business and they were looking for something new to put on business cards and employee uniforms. As they work on their website, these would be a part of things to come, and we were happy to help.
Ryan:“Trista acted as the go-between for them and sent us a few ideas she had gathered. With the directions, we set off into design land looking at ideas from each of the inspiration pieces sent. The owners love to hike, so mountains were essential to the logo and were, of course, a nod to the name.”
The first round yeilded exactly the kind of feedback we want to hear:
“OMG!!!! These are amazing.” But we also love the iterative revision process and collaboration that gets us over the finish line to happy campers. There were tweaks, we played with fonts, more of a neon color palette and options for the mountains. The owners mentioned wanting to possibly order brighter neon orange shirts for the techs, so Ryan adapted designs and provided options.
The magic came with that second round and then Ryan created a style guide, delivered the logos for use across their promotional needs and then to their web designer.
A few weeks after the final files were delivered, Trista sent us a message with the photos of how the logo was being used on the company trucks, and we cannot express how cool it is to see the finished product in use like that.
If you’re thinking about a rebrand, need a logo, just want to understand what goes into working with us on projects like this, we hope you’ll be in touch. A business card to car wraps, it’s all about being cohesive and disciplined and Pixels can help your brand achieve this!

Just as when your life changes, when your business changes, it’s time for a new look… and in the world of marketing, we call that rebranding. Pixels is asked to help businesses rebrand with new logo treatments and visual vocabularies all the time, but it’s particularly fun when it’s someone you know and respect. Enter Haylee Greene.
Haylee is a baker and the owner of Indulge Specialty Cakes & Baked Goods. We created her original branded logo, and businesses cards too, back in 2015. We had a blast because 1) she’s a dynamo and has been such a wonderful friend, and 2) we happen to have in common the fact that Indulge and Pixels are specialty vendors who work events like weddings. In other words, we often run in the same circles.
Haylee stepped away from the baking business for a season (and got married!) and when she decided to come back to the business, she wanted a refresh and we were happy to help.
Original business card and logo for Indulge Bakery designed in 2015:
As we do with all branding clients, we started with a conversation about what she wanted from the logo in this new world and asked for inspiration and examples of what she found attractive. Haylee shared a desire for something more earthy in terms of palette and more handmade – even hand-drawn in look and feel (like her gorgeous baked creations) and provided us with some parameters. It was an overhaul and we enjoyed the challenge of making the look different, but still indicative of who she is, what her business does and appealing to the eye.
Her response from the first round of logos: “You have outdone yourself!! Honestly, I don’t know how I’m going to choose! You definitely nailed exactly what my vision was.”
First round of concepts for the updated Indulge Specialty Cakes & Baked Goods:
After some tweaking, we sent along a second set and she reviewed those as well. When she found the winner, she wrote us to say, “Thank you for working so hard. It seems even more important to me this time for many reasons. I love that you are so willing to help me make it perfect.”
Final logo design for Indulge Specialty Cakes & Baked Goods:
Rebranded final business card design for Indulge:
The business card design was just as fun and gave Ryan the chance to throw out some wild card ideas to see where Haylee was with thoughts on taking the branding beyond the logo. In the end, she opted for a mix of traditional and earthy, which suits Haylee as a person and how she wants to market the business.
[By the way, and not for nothing, Haylee and Indulge make crazy good cakes and cupcakes, plus AH-MAZING whoopee pies!!]

“I’m incredibly thankful our patients have trusted their health to us for a decade. We want to show our gratitude by giving back to a nonprofit that’s serving our local community,” says AcuCare Clinic owner Abe Rummage. “The clinic has donated to Shining Hope Farms for several years, butmy wife and I are now personally able to see how the organization helps adults and children with disabilities because our oldest son Brodie, who has Down syndrome, is now receiving occupational therapy services on horseback at the Mt. Holly location.”
