When it was time to schedule their daughter Ashleigh’s senior portraits, father Scott said, “why not take pictures of the entire family?” I’ve learned that you never say no to an opportunity to get everyone together – especially when you have teenagers. AND ESPECIALLY WHEN IT’S DAD’S IDEA. Show of hands: how many times has your husband or boyfriend said, let’s get our portraits taken?
We photographed the Anderson family in Stone Mountain just a few weeks ago and, as mentioned, ended up with two photo shoots instead of one. Jenny was my very best friend all through elementary and high school and since returning to Wilkesboro almost a decade ago, we’ve been photographing her family. I love her and, naturally we love this clan.
Not too long ago (a couple of years maybe), we had an outdoor family portraits session with the Andersons and Jenny’s sister’s family, the Scotts. Like this one, it was in the fall. I love seeing how the kids have grown even since then. Faces may change slightly, and size, but their personalities really begin to sparkle. There’s something about seeing a kid you knew as a child just along for the ride, suddenly as a young adult willing to take up some space. It’s pretty special.
Daughter Ashleigh is a senior in high school and was part of our recent blog about prom portraits. Son Owen has grown a foot since we last saw him; Ashleigh is headed off to college soon and we loved spending time with this family cracking up, swapping stories and silly verbal jabs and watching them show off their lively family dynamic.
Jenny and Scott’s personalities really shined through in these images. When Jenny came to view the proofs, she brought Ashleigh and they both agreed that the images captured who they are every day, not just in front of a camera. I remember Jenny and Scott when they fell in love in high school… nothing has changed and, I must say, that gives me hope! Love can last, ya’ll and gets better in time.
If you love outdoor family portraits, give us a call. It’s getting colder out, but it’s never too soon to plan for the spring. To the Andersons, we love you! Talk soon!
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.
