McKenzie Goff | Senior Portraits

This lovely new graduate is McKenzie Goff and she just wrapped up high school at Wilkes Central. This time of year is heady for new graduates, because they are smack in the middle of so much transition, change, and possibility. Milestones seem to happen weekly and for McKenzie, this includes acceptance to the University of Tennessee.

We’ve been friends with and photographing the Goff family for a very long time, including capturing their Christmas card images and portraits of their two daughters – both of whom have grown into the most sensitive, beautiful and interesting young women.

We’re so excited to watch McKenzie head to Knoxville to become a full-fledged Volunteer and begin her next chapter: the nursing program! Girl: you got this and we’re rooting for you!

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddingsbrides, and special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

katie & tim’s twickenham house wedding

“We were so happy to see cousins we hadn’t seen in a long time, friends from Hawaii, Seattle, Colorado, all hanging out, chattering and later playing music for the ceremony. We loved our DJ, photographers and how much love we felt surrounded with. If we were to give a couple advice about their wedding, we’d tell them to get married in the mountains and make the wedding a full weekend, an inclusive event.” Pixels On Paper Photographers Twickenham House Jefferson NC wedding photoPixels On Paper Photographers Twickenham House Jefferson NC wedding photoPixels On Paper Photographers Twickenham House Jefferson NC wedding photo

Katie Speights and Tim Mahon were married at Twickenham House in Jefferson, NC on June 18 this year and it was one of our all time favorite weddings (and they are one of our all time favorite couples to have ever worked with). Katie is a wedding planner in Charleston, SC and she applied all her expertise to her own wedding. Everything was on schedule, flowed seamlessly, looked amazing and everyone was relaxed and having fun the entire day. The extra touches were, quite frankly, inspired – and Tim was a part of one of the sweetest. He wrote a note on the bottom of Katie’s shoes (see above) that she only noticed when she was getting ready.

Even their sweetheart of a dog is named Saluda (google it). The wedding was small, intimate and personal. It focused on marriage, family and friends, the most important aspects. The day was an intersection of both elegance and personal touches: Katie’s Mom made the cakes, using recipes passed down through generations. A close friend of Katie’s “did” everyone’s hair and makeup. The same friend undercut her own hair with the couple’s initials surrounded by a heart.
Tim & Katie wrote the table assignments on their snowboards and a canvas candid photo of the pair with an I Love You message was used as the guest book. Finally, an artist friend drew and designed their can cozies to include Saluda’s profile. Those were only a few of the thoughtful details, gang. Katie plied her trade, big time.

Twickenham has an overlook on the side of a mountain. Photographing Katie and Tim there was a must on our to do list. We snuck them away from their reception to make the climb. That climb itself is a blog, but we keep our couples counsel close and quiet. <insert smile here>. The two were so beautiful and happy relishing in the moment while we captured images that may very well be some of our all time favorites.

DeMille. Watching friends gather after we’d photographed the couple, was one of the sweeter and more beautiful moments of a day filled with beauty and love.

We’d be nuts not to mention the other vendors who contributed to this amazingly cool wedding.

ostendarp family portraits | then and now family photography

Pixels On Paper had the honor of photographing the entire Ostendarp family, three generations and four families within the family, in Charlotte, NC six years ago. From the moment we captured a particular image of the grandkids walking and running across the bridge at Freedom Park and circling around our lens, we knew that one day we would HAVE to recreate these moments. Well, recently we had the chance to do just that.

Lois Ostendarp and her husband Ken have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. When Lois asked us to capture the extended family in August 2006, we were thrilled and dove in head first. When they saw the photos, everyone commented on how neat it would be to photograph the youngest generation again years later to see how all of the grandkids had changed.

Six years later, what Lois did not know was that her children had not forgotten that wish either, and when it was time to celebrate a milestone birthday for Lois, her daughter-in-law Courtney reached out on the family’s behalf and put into motion the surprise gift of a lifetime that involved Pixels On Paper family photography. It took a few tries to get the schedules coordinated between all of the 7 grandkids’ sports, camps and other activities, but we nailed down the time and everything was set.

What came out of the family portrait session was nothing short of amazing. We brought the original images and recreated 3 different photographs. When we compared the pictures, it was crazy to see just how much each grandchild had grown and changed. The youngest generation still remembered that moment from six years ago, the fun they had and the memories that were captured with their cousins. Even now while some have become teenagers they were just as eager to capture another moment that would bring pure joy to their Grandmother.

The family was able to present Lois with the new photos at her birthday celebration. We would have loved to have been there to see the look on her face, but prior engagements kept us away. What was incredible was the message we received from Lois a few days after:

“Misty & Ryan ~

Just wanted to drop you a note to say a great big thank you for being so flexible in helping the kids to put together a 5-6 year later retake of that wonderful photo coming across the bridge at Freedom Park.  Misty, you always said you wanted to take that shot again in 5 years!  What a wonderful surprise, and it was probably the best birthday gift I have ever received.  AND they are resolved to do it one more time when the kids will range from 16-21 years old.  Yikes!  Anyway, it is beautiful and so is the second photo take ‘from the ground up’ of all of them.  What a treat and what a thrill for me.”
