We showed this picture of newborn Ivy Myers to a writer friend of ours and she burst out laughing. “It’s Greta Garbo!” Beautiful, bored, tired and she wants to be [said in best German accent] alone. Ivy’s eyes, at half-mast like Garbo’s, is also glamorous and seems to crave both privacy and a nap.
Ivy however is not alone. She was very much wanted and is probably right this minute being snuggled within an inch of her life. Kim and Justin Myers, her mom and dad, had been trying to have a child for years and finally decided that they were going to be the fun aunt and uncle – relishing time with nieces and nephews and their friends’ kids. After years of praying and planning though – they now have sweet Ivy, the product of an open adoption. She is a delicious answer to prayers and a dream come true.
At Pixels, we prayed during the adoption process, because Kim booked us before she was “theirs” and we knew how much they were ready for her. And then suddenly, they were parents. Creating the baby announcement cards was such a joy. Kim and Justin were now Kim, Justin and Ivy.
When it was time for Ivy’s 6 month photo session, the Myers came back to our studio in Wilkesboro, NC and Ivy had changed so much. Don’t you love it when children grow at this stage? They have those super-round Charlie Brown heads with all of their features relegated to the middle of their faces? There is all of this real estate of forehead, cheeks, chin that is perfect for smooching and snacking on. That was Ivy this past December 2014. She was also more interested in listening to Beyonce than Sesame Street tunes during the shoot. Yet another diva move!! But really, she’s more love bug than anything with her rolls and irresistible grin.
Ivy is proof that sometimes you actually do get what you want, even when the odds seem against you. Timing is impossible to control, but patience can be life-changing. At Pixels, we love these stories of how faith and a true resolve can produce unexpected rewards… like a family.
Turning one year old is such a milestone in a child and parent’s life. Its fun to capture child portraits especially during that one year mark. We encourage our clients to bring birthday cakes or birthday cupcakes into the Pixels On Paper portrait studio during this momentous occasion. We will photograph portraits that are traditional and classic and also portraits of them diving into their very first birthday cake all during the same photography session. The expressions we can capture during these moments are absolutely priceless! Just like these of little Kennedy during her First Year portrait session.
Kennedy’s Mom and Dad are both Appalachian State University Alums. How cute is this ASU gingham and smocked dress she wore???
There aren’t many children at this age that aren’t happier without their clothing. Don’t most take them off anyway? You can tell by Kennedy’s smile that she definitely was.

We are so very delayed in completing a blog post that recaps the photos of our client’s and friends from 2012. You can’t possibly understand how difficult it is to look back through every photo session from last year and pick favorites. It’s February but it’s also better late than never! We continue to feel incredibly blessed that so many each and every year trust us to photograph and capture the most important memories of their lives. We met some amazing people, felt like a part of so many of these people’s lives, and more often than not were right there along side of them having just as much fun. We gained numerous friendships last year. 2012 brought engagement pics, wedding pictures, senior portraits, family portraits, newborn photography, photos of children, pet pics, and commercial photography. We even added studio portraits for the first time in the history of Pixels On Paper! We are inpatient when it comes to figuring out what 2013 will bring and excited about the photographs we will capture.
The following are our personal favorite images from each of those we photographed in 2012. Enjoy the view!

Pixels on Paper, Waggles Pet Supply & Dog Wash donate pet food, needed items to Wilkes Animal Shelter Partnership results in more than 560 pounds of pet food donated
Pixels on Paper Photography, with the help of its many loyal customers and Waggles Pet Supply & Dog Wash, donated more than 560 pounds of pet food and other pet supply items to the Wilkes Animal Shelter.
The items were collected December 8 and 9 when Pixels on Paper offered free, pet portrait sessions to clients who donated a minimum 15 pound bag of dry pet food to the shelter. During the two-day event, Pixels on Paper scheduled 20 pets (cats and dogs) in its studio, located at 1198 Curtis Bridge Rd., Wilkesboro. Clients from as far away as Charlotte, N.C., participated. In addition to pet food, participants also donated blankets, towels and bleach.
In partnership, Waggles Pet Supply & Dog Wash matched the food donations that were contributed and gave all contributing pet owners a voucher for a free pet toy.
The collected items were delivered by Misty & Ryan Case of Pixels On Paper and Kim Hatfield of Waggles Pet Supply & Dog Wash.

Below are photos of all that participated in Pixels On Paper’s Christmas pet portrait sessions. Without their donations this fundraiser would not have been a success. We’re grateful to have photographed so many adorable pets. Thank you with all our hearts!
It is with great sadness that poor Foster (shown above left with his owners) lost his battle to a long term illness on 1/14/13. We are grateful to have photographed him prior to his passing so that his owner’s will have lasting memories of the enjoyment he brought to their lives.
