You may have noticed a bit of an absence from the blog for a couple weeks. It was not for lack of things going on that we have not posted, but for the exact opposite reason, tons going on. If you follow us on Twitter or FaceBook, you may have noticed that there have been loads of posts about our new studio space and the renovations under way.
So far we have done a lot of repair work to the exterior of the space, including washing from top to bottom, repairing some rotten wood and painting, lots and lots and lots of painting. It was a family effort as it took four of us to install a new 14′ support beam under the house that will soon bear the load of our new kitchen.
Now most of the work outside is on hold and we have turned our focus to the interior spaces. We have grand plans for the studio side that we cannot wait to show. The electricians are almost finished with the task of running all the new wiring we need and surround sound throughout the house. We have removed 100% of the popcorn ceiling texture so far and tore out the old kitchen to make way for an updated and more suited to us space. We still need to get the floors refinished, the walls repaired and painted and the studio and office set up, which is no small task, and will take some time with a lot of thought and effort on our part. In the mean time we wanted to give all our fans a peek at what has happened on the outside.
Ryan got to have fun in a bucket truck while using it to replace gutters on the upper roof and paint the trim on the 3rd story dormer windows.
Removed and replaced a rotten beam under one side of the porch that was also supporting the front corner of the house.
The old tongue and groove porch was in dire need of a few coats of paint before it began to rot. It will need to be painted again after construction is complete.
Our repurposed store displays hung to give the wisteria a place to grow.
One of two rotten window sills that Ryan replaced.
Water damage at the side door ended up going all the way through the sub floor. Once again Ryan’s carpentry skills were put to the test and he passed with flying colors.
The landscaping outside was in dire need of help and family have taken over that task since Misty continues to get poison ivy whenever working in it.
We continue to be amazed at all the people who are stopping in to check on us and offer encouragement. Our clients continue to be our life, and for that we are thankful. We have gained so many friends through the years, and we hope that by what we are working towards will make that number grow for years to come.
We are also thankful to our families who have put in their fair share of the work. Without their love, support and back breaking work, none of this would have been possible. Blessed beyond measure does not begin to describe how we feel. This has been God’s plan for us all along, and we are excited that we are finally able to start to see what He has prepared us for through our journey so far.
If you are able to, and are in the area on the weekends when we are there the most, give us a shout and come on by to see the journey unfolding. And thank you in advance for our patience in dealing with us as we throw ourselves into the renovation because at times we may be slow to respond due to the work going on.
Stay tuned for more progress going on in the inside.
We love photographing weddings either in the NC Mountains, Charlotte, or any destination near or far. Once the wedding is over, and the wedding images have been edited and posted online for our clients viewing, the next rewarding step is when our clients choose to have those images all come together in a custom designed storybook wedding album. Seeing each page design created and turning through the final printed album is like witnessing the wedding all over again, it’s the icing on the cake. Although many clients choose only to have their images on disk, there are others who understand the value in having an album that can be ooh’d and ahh’d over with friends. More importantly a wedding album is an item that will eventually be passed from one generation to the next and the next, keeping the wedding day memories alive for even those that were not witness to it.
We’ve taken the time to create a few slideshow videos of some of our recent wedding album pages. These are actual client’s albums. Each Bride and Groom has taken part in the selection of each image, the color combination of each cover, and the story that they want their album to tell. Each and every album is unique.

On Saturday, March 17, Pixels On Paper participated in the Wilkes Smart Start Magic Show. Smart Start had several informational booths set up around the Stone Center for parents to pick up information on finding and paying for child care, starting a home child care facility, as well as nutrition information, and fun and games. The event wrapped up with a magic show for all the kids (both young and old.)
We were able to join in on the fun by setting up a small photo booth where the kids were able to put on magician hats, wave magic wands and make rabbits appear! It was truly a fun morning getting to be a part of such a wonderful program. We captured some fun moments of budding magicians.
Photos taken of the participants at the event are available for purchase on our site, click here to access the gallery. There is a $25 minimum order with proceeds benefiting Wilkes Smart Start. Thanks for letting us be a part of a great community event!

We always have so much fun at the bridal shows we participate in. Our philosophy is that we have fun doing what we do, and we love to show that to people. That was never more evident than at the Wilkes Wedding Expo held at the John A. Walker Center in Wilkesboro on Sunday, March 11.
From the time the doors opened, despite the large crowd, we were able to spend some time with brides-to-be (and grooms too!). They were able to browse through all of our sample albums, get pricing information and check our available dates. Misty had people lined up just to get in to see all of our work. It was almost difficult at times to see everyone because it was so busy. If we met you at the show and haven’t already scheduled a one-on-one consult with you be sure to call or email us to set that up.
We also had our Future Trophy Bride contest going on in full effect. The photo booth was set up with more props than should be allowed in one space. All of the Brides that signed up were given our awesome Future Trophy Bride pink t-shirt, given free run at the props, and asked to jump into the photo booth for a few photos. There were some absolutely crazy things going on in the booth. No one around was safe from being pulled into a shot, future-mother-in-laws included!
Big congratulations and thank you to Kelly Shumate with Bridal Traditions Wedding and Prom Attire for organizing and hosting such a successful event. The turn out was amazing, and all of her hard work certainly showed. We hope that all the wedding vendors in attendance experienced a successful show.
And last but not least, we cannot forget to mention Misty’s mom, Kathy. She was invaluable with the booth at the show. She managed to keep Ryan in line with the photo booth, even when there was a long line forming for people wanting their chance.
Anyone planning a wedding will get another chance to visit our wedding photo exhibit booth and get a free t-shirt if you participate in our photo booth this Sunday, March 25th, for the Association of Consultants and Events Services (ACES) High Country Wedding Expo. The expo will be at the ASU Summit Trail Solarium on the Campus of ASU in Boone, NC. Admission is $5 or 5 canned goods. Parking is free Sunday in the College Street / Library Parking Deck. Fashion show begins at 2 p.m. We look forward to meeting many new Brides!
