I feel like I say this about every family that we photograph more than two times. Maybe I do. And then it occurred to me that perhaps Ryan and I are just blessed in this way beyond the other blessings that we already see daily. Maybe our superpower is attracting great people into our lives who just happen to be our clients. We find commonalities, share values, a world view or life experience, crack each other up, can relate about the ups and downs of life and become bonded for keeps. The Yorks are just such a couple and just such a family.
We photographed the Lindsey, Mitch, Tate and Turner a few years ago with Lindsey’s family and again last year with outdoor portraits of Mitch’s family. This most recent occasion was about birthday celebrations for their boys, Turner and Tate. The two year old loves trains so we all met up at the Depot in North Wilkesboro. His theme? CHOO CHOO ~ I’M 2! Cute huh? He is obsessed with trains, train tracks, the cars, all of it. And the four year old is ALLLLLL about fishing, so there were plenty of props for each little man. If only we could all hang onto passion the way we do when we’re so young…. “she said wistfully.”
Lindsey has envisioned a stairwell wall collection as well as one above her bed and we’re in the process of getting the canvases created and up on the walls for this crew. We’re also already planning next year’s session. We had so much fun at this one, that we cannot wait. Ideas are brewing!
As we watch this family grow, and I look at these images, that blessed feeling returns. We are happy to be doing life with these guys. Lindsey, Mitch, Turner and Tate: We love you!
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Am I the only one who thinks that we jump from Thanksgiving to Easter in some wild time travel experiment every year? Some days are blinks and others are lifetimes and while the winter has dragged on in the Carolinas this year, it’s nearly May and high school seniors are feeling the euphoria of graduation. Yes, exams stand between them and the finish line, but if memory serves, those days will be blinks too and summer will soon follow.
Every year, we photograph seniors and rising seniors in high school – not for yearbook photos – but for parents who want to put a pin in this speeding time train. I’m mixing my metaphors, but you’re with me, right? Graduation is a milestone and it’s worth celebrating. My son is somehow 6 months and I know that the moms and dads who hire us for these senior portraits are thinking, “yup… just you wait, Misty!” I’m thinking of Timberli and Chris Roberts – whose 3 kids we’ve photographed over the years.
We love doing these shoots for several reasons, not the least of which is that we too get to watch these kids grow up. If you want to get on our schedule, contact us and let us capture portraits of your kid before they start some serious adulting.
If you want to see more – here you go!

I have a pal who finds hilarious pictures of her family from old portrait sessions and gives them as gifts each year, along with NEW portraits. It’s sort of a repurpose, re-gift, re-laugh about it. The time progression is its own reward along with her Mother’s laughter and recollections.
The York sons did something similar for Christmas last year, minus the goofy shots from the 1990s. These three men bought a family portrait session – a gift card from Pixels actually – and presented it to their parents, Mark & Denise York. The gift card was good for a family portrait of the entire York family, something they knew that their Mom had been wanting for a very long time.
Listen up, sons and daughters, especially if you’re looking for a Christmas or anniversary present for your parents: your mom and dad did all of that laundry, schlepped all of that sporting equipment, sewed quilted ballet bags to carry your point shoes, baked untold dozens of Toll House cookies, worked with paper mache, checked homework after 11 pm, wiped your rear end, taught you to drive and throw a football in a tight spiral and stood in line to buy toys you’ve long forgotten about …………… you with me? THEY EARNED IT.
Mrs. York cashed in her certificate at the end of August after undertaking the kind of coordination that would make the Pentagon cringe. She had 15 family members (4 generations) to pin down and she stuck the landing. On a gorgeous day at a picturesque family farm in North Wilkesboro, we met up with this crew and thank goodness for perfect weather. Finding another date would have been many more months in the making.
When we photograph families, extended families and multiple generations, we always capture a variety of combinations for the individual family units and the matriarchs and patriarchs who want everyone and all the time. Gift cards for photography are available for any occasion at all times but are especially popular at Christmas. If you’re interested, please contact us and we’ll start planning.
