3 generations of family – Picard

Featured just below are 2 sweet sisters, cheek to cheek at their grandparents’ house. This is one of those shots (we hope) that will end up on their father’s office desk or on a wall at gramma and grandpas or someday packed up and transported to college with either or both of them. These two are in that age range that is entirely transitional – almost constantly so. Isn’t that one of the definitions of spring – the constant change? It’s the sweet, blooming, green and pink tunnel we pass through to get from winter to summer. You think you want summer, but the ride through spring is the magic. These are the Picards. We photographed 3 generations of this family during Easter weekend at their home in North Wilkesboro, NC. The senior Picards moved from the north a few years ago when they retired. They wanted to escape the cold, but we know they love the southern warmth (people and climate). Getting everyone together is never easy, since some family members serve in the military and others are scattered, so it becomes a priority to get together as often as possible, and then to make sure a portrait is taken.
We had fun with this gang and especially enjoyed watching them all interact. 3 generations together, especially when they don’t see each other all the time, is something to see. They are all remembering each other and how to be together, cracking each other up, posing, hugging, etc. It’s a departure from some of the families we photograph who are so accustomed to constant contact that we have to deploy the Please Focus Now, People playbook. Not so with the Picards.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden.Pixels on Paper photographs babies and kidsengagements and weddingsbrides and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. Mothers, Fathers, Couples, Babies, Children, Siblings, Grandmothers, Grandfathers, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles.
Mommy, Daddy, Gramma, Grampa, Mamaw, Papaw, Gigi, Nona, PopPop, Nana, Sissy, Bubba, Bro, and on and on the names and terms of endearment go. There are as many descriptors and tags for us as there are types of people. And it’s trite, but you know where I’m headed with this…… they all make up Family. I recently heard someone say that we don’t wake up each day thinking, “this day will be filled with drama,” and the next, “this day is going to be fun and filled with comedy.” I believe this. It’s always all of it – replete. The same is true of families. Looking through the buckets and buckets of family photos Pixels has taken over the years brings into sharp relief how much we love taking family portraits and just how many versions of “Family” there are….too many to count and each one miraculous. outdoor mountain family portraits

The Polands have 4 kids, fourteen grandkids, 2 dogs, a donkey and 2 horses. LARGE. They are spread out all over the country so capturing these photos was a one day thing and everyone in the family, pets and all, were there.Poland Outdoor Family Portrait Photography photoWe met James and Judy one night while dining outside at The New Public House in Blowing Rock and liked them immediately. We spent hours on the porch that evening sharing stories, drinking wine and enjoying each other’s company. They told us about their large family made up of their kids and grandkids and their farm just outside of Boone. The various members of the clan rarely see each other. One son is in the military and often deployed. Another son lives in Florida. The family is made up of several blended families and the only time in years that they would all be together in the same place and at the same time was a single day in between the holidays. Judy really wanted a family portrait. Who could blame her? One woman, her husband and in a mere few decades…… a cast of thousands!
Poland Outdoor Family Portrait Photography photoIn only a couple of weeks, Judy called us and gave us the ONE DAY and we were off. We love this shot of Judy and James surrounded by their fourteen grand “babies.” We found a perfect spot on their farm and all of the colorful clothes the kids wore made it work. 9 girls and 5 boys…… LORDY!! And they were so cute and funny with loads of energy.

the perry family ~ one spot and 3 generations

“All that history, the love & laughter, is designed for youth. It is what keeps the story of who we are alive from one generation to the next. It ensures our indelible mark in the souls of generations we will never have the pleasure of holding in a warm embrace. Life is short people.” – E.B. Loan

You can find your way back to family using one of those ancestry sites – and they are amazing. You can also get several generations together and capture a moment like we did with the Perry family in Linville, NC …. 3 Generations. Count ’em – THREE.
Pixels on Paper 3 Generations of Family in Linville NC Outdoor photoWhile all 3 families live in Durham, NC, they wanted to gather at their second family/vacation home in Linville, NC to capture the Matriarch and Patriarch and their 2 sons along with their wives and 5 children. The setting and day turned out to be gorgeous – and so did the multiple groups of Perry’s. Sundress, sandals, shades of blues among the greens of outside and family members ranging from months old to decades old.

We’ve watched our clients over time look back and say “Oh, there’s our schnauzer Molly when you were just 3 years old!” Or, “I cannot believe we were all so YOUNG!” It’s caught in time for good. The Perry’s, in particular the little ones dressed up and being held in laps, will treasure these as heirlooms some day. As the quote above says, “life IS short people.” So gather your clan and let us capture you all for the generations you don’t even know are coming.

Newborn Photography {FAQs} | Pixels On Paper Wikesboro NC Family Portrait Photographer

Having a professional portrait studio space to photograph newborns has given us the ability to create a safe, warm, inviting and relaxed environment for both parents and babies. Sanitation, preparation and efficiency during a newborn portrait session are top priorities for us. We want to take this opportunity to answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

When should I contact you to book my newborn session?
We HIGHLY recommend you contact us during your pregnancy to start the booking process. We want to add you to our schedule as soon as possible and keep tabs on you throughout your maternity. Although we make every effort to fit in last-minute newborn session requests, our schedule fills up quickly and it may not be possible to do so. Once you are on our calendar, you are given priority after your baby arrives and we will be sure to schedule your session within 10 days after you leave the hospital.

Why does my baby need to be so young for a newborn session?
The ideal time for a newborn session is generally when a baby is between 5-10 days old. They are still very sleepy and are still comfortable being curled up similar to how they were positioned in the womb so their legs tuck up underneath them very comfortably. We can pose them in all those sweet poses quicker and more easily while they sleep. Every passing day after birth brings more awake time and less tolerance to the posing.

Where will the session take place?
All newborn sessions take place in the Pixels On Paper portrait photography studio located at 1198 Johnson Lane, Wilkesboro NC. In studio means we can devote more time to the session because we don’t have to pack up all of our equipment, props, lighting and supplies each time we have a session. We can guarantee our light and environment is perfect and exactly what you have come to expect in our photos rather than trying to search for the right location and light in your home.

How long will the session take?
The session can last anywhere from 2 – 4 hours depending on how often your baby needs to be fed and how well your baby sleeps through the posing and accessory changes; every baby is different and some babies may need more soothing and slower transitions than others. Taking our time and perfecting every shot is more important than rushing a session.
