Autumn in North Carolina is pretty gorgeous and while we’re a little ways out from leaf season (it’s still August for Pete’s sake), it’s good to get a jump on scheduling outdoor portrait sessions for your seniors in high school and for your family.
Our lenses have focused on too many rocks and trees and rivers to count, but we love the fall for that reason. We love the changing seasons, the shock of cool air, the wool sweaters, the boots and the memories created that AREN’T beach, sea and sand. Get out your calendars, choose your location and clothes and give us a call! We’re ready when you are!
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

We know that the temptation with family gatherings, especially with the vacation season already here, is to use your phone to grab little candid moments in photos that are impromptu and casual. They don’t always turn out that way though. Not everyone ends up being happy with the results. As pro photographers, our instinct is always to be capturing memories where people really do feel like they look their best. We make our subjects feel comfortable, we love to laugh, learn the little relational connections and inside jokes, and we absolutely – ABSOLUTELY – understand the family dynamic.
This is our case for scheduling a family portrait session this summer season. Pick out your duds, your location, who you want included (WE LOVE A FULL ON FAMILY REUNIONS) and let’s create a moment on film where everyone looks and feels awesome. You’ll be glad.
Here’s to families!
“Family: A social unit where the father is concerned with parking space, the children with outer space, and the mother with closet space.” – Evan Esar
“My family is really boring. They have a coffee table book called Pictures We Took Just to Use up the Rest of the Film.” – Penelope Lombard
“Some family trees bear an enormous crop of nuts.” – Wayne Huizenga
“Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family… in another city.” – George Burns“The other night I ate at a real nice family restaurant. Every table had an argument going.” – George Carlin
“Obviously, if I was serious about having a relationship with someone long-term, the last people I would introduce him to would be my family.” – Chelsea HandlerSo, the jokes are because laughter is ultimately what keeps us together, but we seriously love day in the life photo shoots, posed portraits and outdoor gatherings of family. Tis the season to get everyone around a place or a day you love and let us capture some images of 2018 that will last long after this season is over.

So much of being event photographers and particularly musical event photographers means being flexible, running around like a crazy person, knowing when stop, drop and roll and when to snap…. not like a maniac, but when to snap a moment. Sometimes it’s random and lucky, sometimes it’s absolute precision and experience and sometimes it’s a function of the reverie of music, memory and fun.
Ryan and I happen to be big time music fans which comes in handy when asked to return as Official photographers for Merlefest and asked to spend a long weekend capturing singer-songwriters, trios or bands we love. We can find the right moment to capture their instruments, collaboration or groove. We’re aware of our jobs, but transported by the music too, you know? As a job, it doesn’t suck. We love the lighting, the venues, the crowds and all the angles that allow us to bring these portraits to you.
Here are more of our favorites from 2018 Merlefest. See 2018 Merlefest Part 1 here.
This year’s Merlefest was not only a blast of great tunes, it allowed us to watch some favorites, see some new faces and capture dynamic moments and crowd-pleasers.
