These guys use only the good notes.
If it’s your cup of tea (or whiskey) to go to a live local show, then you need to see the Grievous Angels Band. We ADORE them and were honored to photograph a performance of theirs. They’ve got some fab photos from fans and friends, but wanted a few more for promotional use and we threw our equipment in the car and sped their way. Do you like American music, vocals that range from gravelly to crazy smooth, guitars, guitars, guitars with texture, folk, rock and a confluence of talent, grace, mischief, energy and a pure force that brings you back to earth? These guys are for you, … and when we say guys, we mean guys (precisely 5) and one gal – Alicia – nicknamed “the Pistol.” Any woman who can elbow her way into that mix is a mighty thing and Alicia is mighty. The photos for this session were taken in February of this year at Summit Coffee in Davidson where they perform regularly. As with all truly good live music, the vibe was raw and fun and we loved focusing on each band member. The Grievous Angels, by the way, are Joe Ciarlante, Tim Farney, Richard McDevitt, Reid Cathcart, Jim Gamble and Alicia Akima R Driver.
Pixels loves photographing musicians, as you know, and would love to do so for your band, group, ensemble, trio or musical tribe. We’re looking forward to Merlefest in a mere 4 weeks.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden.Pixels on Paper photographs babies and kids, engagements and weddings, brides and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.
We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and give you our heartfelt thanks.
2015 has been an amazing year for Pixels On Paper and it wouldn’t have been that way were it not for our awesome clients, supportive friends, partners and families. Thank you to those who put your faith in us and invested in our talents. An additional & HUGE THANK YOU to those who have referred us to friends and family. We hope and pray that you will continue to do the same, as ultimately this is what keeps us in the business of fulfilling our crazy dream.
This year, we served new clients, for whom we fell in love – new babies, newly engaged couples, brides & grooms, parents who adopted and families who wanted to create memories and heirlooms. And there were recurring clients (many have become our lifelong friends) who we loved to plan with and serve for those milestones that are worthy of more than pics taken by a smart phone. In August, Pixels celebrated its 10 year anniversary with a big party surrounded by many of you and believe us, our hearts were full – and still are.
It’s also been our busiest year ever for graphic design. A special thanks to those business owners who have trusted us to help them build their brand identities and design marketing materials that will help their businesses grow. We hope for continued success in all of your endeavors.
As we enter into the season of proposals and engagements, if you or somebody you know is getting engaged, please keep us in mind for engagement and wedding photography. We are currently booking 2016 and 2017 dates!
To all of you out there, THANK YOU. Our wish for everyone in 2016 is health, happiness, peace, love and big dreams!
beep…………….. beep……………….. beep………………….. We live with this sound. It says “commerce,” it says “products on the move,” and “inventory,” “profits” and “revenue.” More often, to us, it says, “now it’s mine!!”
It is all but ambient noise these days. Our groceries are scanned, our large appliances are scanned, every shirt, shoe, toy …… and our phones scan, our business cards scan and each is singular. Each bar code or QR code takes you to a specific place and time, a web address, conveyor belt, product, pallet and date, and usually all of these – right down to the person who made the actual product code. Did you know that the FDA is now able to take a single pill and lead it back not just to the very pharmaceutical it is, but to who manufactured it, when it was created, which doctor prescribed it and which drug store sold it? Well they can. Seriously.
Pixels got a call from Anomaly Technical Marketing about taking some photos for an upcoming promotional series for Hitachi America located in Charlotte, NC. Hitachi needed commercial photos for some collateral Anomaly was creating – brochures and other materials and we were more than happy to jump in.
Commercial photography is a different beast requiring a totally different approach. It’s more about the product and its uses rather than the emotion of our portraits of people and pets. But we love the chance to capture the inanimate parts of our world for both commercial promotions and in other graphic design applications. If you want to see more about our commercial work, have a look here.
This couple hosted one of the most fun and exciting Charlotte weddings we’ve ever been a part of. Chris and Jessica along with all their friends and family’s celebratory excitement combined with the picturesque Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter ceremony, Charlotte skyline backdrop, and Charlotte Marriott City Center reception venue made for incredible candid and formal wedding photos.
Even after a long 12-15 hour day the photos that took place at the end of the night on the dance floor say it all. An absolute blast was had by all!
These images are pages of the couple’s wedding album. Images they selected that were then custom designed, printed, and leather bound into an heirloom that will be treasured for generations.
Special thanks to the vendors we worked along side: Florist: The Bloom Room, DJ: AAA Entertainment, Photo Booth: Photo Express, Transportation: Rose Charters, Planner: Lindsay DeFaber, Bride’s Gown by Maggie Sottero, Groom’s Attire: Vera Wang at Men’s Warehouse
When we first met Megan and Jeff for their wedding consult, there was just something that seemed to click and the feeling that we really wanted to photograph their wedding. When the call came in to let us know they wanted to hire us for their Charlotte wedding photography at the Mint Museum on Randolph, we were seriously excited.
Since all of our wedding packages now come with a complimentary engagement session, the next thing to do was plan out where they wanted to go. They both loved the idea of uptown Charlotte and doing their engagement session in and around the Fourth Ward park area. The park is nice, but the surrounding areas offer up so much in the lines of scenery, texture and opportunity to have a little fun. We literally set out and walked the area, stopping at a few spots we knew we wanted to capture and at several places in between that seemed to just catch our eye. And they completely rocked it from start to finish!
The only other preference that Megan had for their session, was a night shot of the Charlotte skyline behind them. We knew just the spot! What we did not expect was the level of silliness that could be reached at the end of an engagement session as the evening cooled off after a hot day. As Megan and Jeff posed for the shot, Megan said to Jeff that he looked a little like Clark Kent. It just happened to come up that Ryan had a Superman t-shirt in the car (necessary equipment for proper photographers by the way) and Jeff agreed to do a few extra poses with Megan to round out the session. The words crazy fun come to mind.
It was an awesome afternoon/evening and we had so much fun getting to know Megan and Jeff during the session, that the day of the wedding was much smoother. Not only because we had connected on a fun level, but they learned how to pose just right and were now more comfortable with us behind the cameras. Those are the best benefits to come out of doing an engagement session with us, lots of fun and connecting to make the day of wedding photography that much better.
