There is a moment in the life of every bride-to-be when she worries about how she’ll look in her gown posing 5 feet from a waterfall. If we had a nickel…… So we’re going to start at this point in the Minick story – the moment when Rachel navigated her way through hill and dale for bridal pictures, looking radiant in her wedding gown and Keen’s. You heard us. You gotta do what you gotta do.
She told us, it was the funniest part of all the shoots we’ve done with Pixels. “Hiking around the location where my bridal portraits were taken was a blast. Wearing Keen’s with my wedding dress and getting strange looks from people fishing at the waterfall was the best!”
Rachel and Ryan met at an Appalachian State football game and so began their relationship. 4 years later we are still photographing them and enjoying not only their company, but watching their family grow and their lives take the various twists and turns it does.
For us, this is not just a business of photography. We’re documenting, watching history unfold, and creating heirlooms that will link generations. The Minick’s, like many of our clients, have become our friends. We “do life” together when there are no cameras around. We feel very strongly that God has given us this gift so that we can become another supportive resource, cheerleaders and advocates for the married couples we’ve met through Pixels. We love seeing them create families and celebrate milestones and feel honored to be a part of the journey. Creating relationships has become as important to us as the photography work.
Below are just a couple of wedding pictures, but we hope you’ll view more of the Minick’s Big Day (teaser: check out Rachel and her bridesmaids’ shoes – they are not Keen’s, but they rock!)
Not surprisingly, people who love each other as much as these two do were destined to add to their family. So two became three with the arrival of Amelia. We’ve enjoyed capturing her with her parental units in a variety of settings. Always fun!
Pixels has an expansive and versatile photography studio for certain shoots, and we love photographing newborns, family portraits, prom pictures, weddings, engagement photos and the like. But we also absolutely embrace those moments when we can be creative in mother nature, and are experienced outdoor photographers in NC. We’ve been able to do both with the Minicks.
Rachel: “I want to remember the early days of our marriage and family and look back at the stages of Amelia’s growth. I know that I will delight in these portraits for years to come and love creating future family heirlooms with Misty and Ryan.” WE look forward to it, too. We love you guys.
Weddings in the NC mountains are always a favorite for us, especially when the ceremony is held outdoor at Leatherwood Mountains located in Ferguson NC near Boone in the NC High Country. The backdrops that the mountains offer are second to none with endless possibilities around Leatherwood resort.
Long before Sarah and Jeremy’s wedding day, we had the opportunity to photograph Sarah’s bridal photography. We have been wanting to do a “peach blossom shoot” for a long time, and when the timing was right, we were lucky enough for great weather. We photographed among the peach and apple blossoms in orchards in Brushy Mountain, NC. Sarah’s dance background allowed us to push her posing a little farther than we normally get to do, and the results were simply stunning! We got creative by incorporating Sarah’s life as a dancer and love for horses as you can see in her bride photos shown below.
Sarah and Jeremy chose the perfect wedding day. With a nice breeze blowing through the NC Mountains and fair temperatures, they said their “I do’s” at the main Leatherwood cabin in front of their families and closest friends. When you are surrounded by horse stables and have a love for horses, what better way to arrive at the ceremony site than in a horse-drawn carriage. Sarah stepped out of the carriage and walked to a waiting Jeremy at the end of the aisle where they exchanged vows that they wrote for each other. After they lit the unity candle and exchanged rings, they were announced as husband and wife and had their first kiss as a married couple.
Following the post ceremony photos with Sarah and Jeremy off in the meadow and in the stables, all of the guests were treated to a wonderful reception in the covered riding ring surrounded by details of hand made decor and plenty of personal touches. A BBQ dinner was catered by Tipton’s of Wilkesboro NC while Ball and Ball DJ entertained the guests.
After a long afternoon of celebration, it was finally time to let the newlyweds head off to their honeymoon, but not before one last dance. While guests headed out of the riding ring to line up for the bubble send-off, Sarah and Jeremy got the chance to have the place to themselves for one final wedding dance.
Be sure to check out Sarah and Jeremy’s engagement portraits here if you have not seen them.
We are grateful to have been Sarah & Jeremy’s chosen wedding photographers and we wish them a life full of romance.

Denny & Kaitlyn live in Charlotte, NC but rather than have a Charlotte wedding they opted for a NC Mountain destination wedding in Hendersonville, NC. As husband and wife wedding photographers that love to travel anywhere anytime, a Hendersonville wedding was a wonderful opportunity for us to photograph in a new scenic backdrop.
The wedding venue was Raymond’s Garden Center. Raymond’s also grew and designed all the wedding flower arrangements and wedding bouquets. The ceremony was in the middle of the nursery surrounded by all the flowers and trees you can imagine. A tent was on the property for the wedding reception. Although the skies were gray and overcast the weather was perfect for wedding photography and all the colors in the gardens and coral worn by the wedding party was vibrant.
Kaitlyn and Denny shared a “first look” with with each other before the ceremony. This moment was a time to ease nerves and anxiety. It also allowed the bride and groom to have a time to themselves to relish in the moment before being surrounded by people and caught up in the rush of the rest of their wedding day. The grin on Denny’s face when he saw his bride is a memory we’ll never forget and with us photographing that moment from a distance never will they.
As the wedding ceremony began the rain also started to fall. Everyone took it in stride. Kaitlyn at one point during the ceremony looked up to the sky and smiled as if nothing was going to dampen her day. Even rain can’t take away from the beauty of NC Mountain weddings. They finalized their vows and Denny sealed it with a very romantic dip and kiss as husband and wife.
The down-pouring rain encouraged us to get creative with post ceremony wedding photos. We found a hidden treasure inside one of Raymond’s greenhouses.
After photos everyone was ready to celebrate under the shelter of the tent. And party they did. The dance floor stayed hopping all night thanks to Gordon Hensley of Digital DJs, one of our favorite wedding vendors to work with who is also located in the NC High Country.
It was such an honor to be a part of this wedding and we are grateful to Denny and Kaitlyn for choosing Pixels On Paper as their wedding photographer and allowing us to capture their photography and memories from their beautiful NC mountain destination wedding.

Katy is now married to Josh so we are able to share a wedding photo gallery of her bridal photos here on our blog. Katy is beautiful and incredibly kind-hearted. Despite or maybe in spite of our normally contemporary style she loved our photos but wanted a very traditional, classic and formal bridal portrait. She and her Mom found us an amazing and elegant home of a friend to use as the location for her bridal session. She was adamant about not being a huge fan of the great outdoors which I can totally respect. Hay bails and barn wood in fields of grass are definitely not for every Bride in the NC Mountains contrary to popular belief.
After seeing the areas where I knew I could capture beautiful bride pics on the inside I was drawn outside and challenged to show Katy something she did not expect to like. What she saw was woods and a paved driveway. What I saw, and photographed was a winding path leading to a beautiful Bride in the spotlight of sunlight as the leaves shimmered in golds and greens dancing in the depth around her. This turned out to be the large art print Katy displayed at her wedding.
I love when we can give our clients what they didn’t know they wanted. It’s all in the creation process, and its a part of what sets us apart from the 1000s of people who all have cameras around us. We are creating art.
We will soon be posting a blog of Katy & Josh’s wedding photo gallery with wedding pics. Mia and Andre were married on August 11, 2012 on what wound up being a whirlwind of a day thanks to Mother Nature. The original plan was to have the ceremony outdoors at Greensboro College on the porch of one of the main administrative buildings. We were sure excited at the prospect of the day, but were a little leery of the weather reports saying rain was on the way. And rain it did pour with thunderstorms for hours on end.
With a few hours to the ceremony’s start time, the decision was made and the back up plan was put into action. Luckily Mia’s parents live in Greensboro and the decision had been made to move the ceremony to their home church a short drive away. To the church we go!
We are used to having to think on our toes each at every wedding since something can always go wrong, so we had a job to do and were ready when the time came. We had to shoot most of the pre-cermony shots in the church taking advantage of the chapel and hallways as best we could. We were able to take advantage of a very brief few moments of clear skies with a few photos outside. Not the best scenario, but one we were dealt and had to work with.
The ceremony itself was an elaborate affair with musicians performing while guests were seated followed by a brief concert of songs that meant a lot to Mia and Andre. Just before Mia walked down the aisle, a dancer performed as guests stood to welcome the bride.
After the ceremony, the rain was still coming down so it was off to the reception at the Greensboro Coliseum, where Nicole Conder of Premier Party Planners had transformed the Terrace into a fabulous party. From the start of the party, all the memories of the rain melted away and the guests were treat to a wonderful night. Everyone packed the dance floor thanks to PC Productions DJ and entertainment spinning the tunes that made people want to dance. It was so much fun to be a part of such a great reception.
We are so thankful for all the opportunities to test ourselves with each wedding, with some more challenging than others. But as a husband and wife team we are there together working our way through for our clients and friends.
We also had the opportunity to shoot Mia’s bridal portraits in and around downtown Greensboro NC. Her portraits were stunning and she was an amazing model. Here are just a few that we are excited to finally share.
Congrats to Mia and Andre!
