An Outdoor Blowing Rock Engagement Portrait Session
These two cuties – Brooke Davis and Joey Tibbett – met at App State and will be married in May of this year. We met them for their engagement portrait session at the Moses Cone Manor in Blowing Rock. It was cold that day and since rainy weather had already shifted our schedule once, we were determined to make it work, despite the weather. They brought their beloved dog Cisco with them, along with a pal – the “dog wrangler” so we were a troop making our way from location to location.
The manor and property are beautiful and so is the Blue Ridge Parkway we used for some shots. When the fog rolled in, we were able to play with lighting some too. Mostly, we wanted them to stay warm, so Brooke kept her coat handy between shots. 
We loved getting to know more about this pair – like for instance that they are considering writing their own vows, that keeping family close is important and that comic books will be given out as gifts at the reception. They’re anxious for their families to know that after the vows are said – even now frankly – they will be one big family. Apparently, Brooke and Joey knew well before they truly expected it that they were going to be together. Adopting sweetheart Cisco made it a done deal. After their wedding and the completion of Brooke’s Masters, they hope to be living in Mooresville and preparing to add to their family – with pups and kiddos.
We love a couple who’ll bring their dog along, because you all know how much we love our Chelsea. We also look forward to their wedding and watching their lives take off. We’ve been there and the journey is in its genesis. Good luck and loads of love, Brooke and Joey!

October Anniversaries ~ all the best to these couples

Augustine was a smart man. He was a saint, a Christian, a philosopher and a studier of men and their relationship to each other and to God. I like this quote, because while it can apply to every single person who loves well, in a marriage, it describes what bride and groom, husband and wife, father and mother will need to keep the family together: hands and feet ready to help and carry, eyes to see both pain and joy, ears to listen to stories that are exhilarating or boring (don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about) and a big heart that wants to jump in no matter what. And it’s just a start. Happy Anniversary to the couples who married in October – all of you – and most especially to the ones we’ve photographed over the years. We love you. Keep celebrating and showing each other what love looks like.

Late Summer | Photos of an Outdoor Southern Wedding
Engaged couples everywhere: If you’re planning a wedding for summer of 2018 (or spring or fall, for that matter), take note. This couple did it well, or as we say in the south – did it right! Alex Sohl and Dan Goldman brought family from all over North Carolina and Kentucky to their outdoor wedding at River Run Farm in Banner Elk, NC for barbecue, dancing and vows in a gorgeous setting. The day, the ceremony and the details were outstanding. If you’re looking for ideas and inspiration or just a smile for the day, check out Alex and Dan’s July 29th wedding.
Alex’s entrance was beautiful. Everyone was assembled in a stand of trees and it felt like country weddings from another time… when two families would come together on a farm, gather to watch the exchange and then sit down to dine together. It was casual and incredibly sweet.
The key ingredient for Alex and Dan was for everyone to feel comfortable and to enjoy the day. There was no fuss, no pomp, just a lot of people playing games, chatting, dancing and enjoying the late summer eve.
Fun and games was their theme – brilliant idea – and everyone had a blast gabbing and competing and getting to know each other. The bride changed her dress and after walking up from the river, everyone enjoyed the barbecue and danced. Their send-off with bubbles and applause was a perfect ending. Many happy returns you two!

august wedding anniversaries
August sometimes gets a bad rap. It’s hot; it’s the end of summer; it’s back to school time (“AND ALL GOD’S CHILDREN YELLED: NOOOOOO!!!); it’s buckle down, “we’re done with the beach for a while” time for families and we all start slouching toward fall. But really, it’s a pretty great month. It’s transition time and it always feels to me like there’s elbow room between summer and the cooling temps and tasks that come with autumn. It’s also the month Ryan and I got married. Our marriage stands up in August and says, “yes! Another year, peeps!” In that spirit, it’s time to wish our couples who were married in August a very Happy Anniversary! You’ll notice two faces below who were mere babies when they got married in August of 2003.
We’ve loved being a part of your journeys, watching your grow, have kiddos and enter new phases of life. We raise a glass to us all.
