Our garden grows the most interesting blooms and recently presented a new one: we call it “the Gracelynn.” It’s bright, delicate and you cannot stop looking at it.
Gracelynn came to our outdoor garden studio to celebrate her first birthday and it was the perfect spot to grab photos of this lovely little flower. We created a boho setting for her to smash her very first birthday cake, but some of the real gems from this shoot are from her interacting with her fellow blooms.
Gracelynn’s mom chose a palette of pink, pale rose and neutrals and we just let this girl shine. She did not need any coaching!
Happy Birthday, Little Girl! You felt like a burst of spring in our midst. We hope that you’ll come back to see us any season that suits you.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborns and families, special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

This little maiden is Astrid and she’s currently a perfectly delightful little one year old. I can personally attest to this. We captured her parents, Macy and Jesse, for the maternity shoot and they were so excited, so beautiful, and my time with them showed me, especially during the height of Covid, how much hope was still in the world. I love it when my job reminds me of that.
We photographed Astrid’s newborn session in the studio, met up with the three of them for the 6 month session in the same location as their maternity photos and finally again for her one year session in our outdoor portrait garden. I love the lighting and the setting we chose. Babies in the outdoors just please me.
As with Astrid’s six month photo session, I pulled Mom and Dad away for a couple of shots just of them. It’s important to see yourselves as a couple too and not just parents. I’m so excited to see this little nugget grow into the girl she’s going to be.

If you think this little be-pearled girl is adorable, scroll down. She and her brother are stinkers!! (That’s a compliment, by the way.) They are delicious and you can tell that they are going to be thick as thieves as they grow up. Hint: tongues out = laughter.
But first – meet newly minted one year old, Marion.
For Marion’s first birthday, we want classic old school. First birthday cake smash images are fun, but I have to say, I stand and applaud working moms when they share that they cannot do it all. They cannot create magic every day out of thin air, including a homemade or store bought picture-perfect unicorn cake and Pinterest-worthy birthday party. We love our kids and we’re busy, and guilt helps exactly no one. Sweet Marion’s amazing mom wanted professional portraits but had little time to plan a theme. I had all the goods to help.
Marion in pearls, pink and a tulle tutu absolutely shined during her session. And while Pinterest boards are great, it was easy for me to set up something simple, elegant and pretty.
NOTE: I have outfits and props for babies and toddlers, you Moms out there! If you don’t come with a trunk of stuff, you aren’t failing. I’ve got your back.
Below, enter big brother Connor who is clearly a very serious type. These two….. big fun or big trouble, maybe both. Marion and Connor – come back to visit us again soon please. We loved the laughter in our studio that day!
Want to see more? Here are the family’s portraits and Marion’s newborn session, as well as Mom’s maternity shoot.

Eleanor (Nora) is new to the planet, so let’s all keep our voices down until she’s ready for the noise and fun of life. Her siblings will help with that, I’m sure. We had the honor of photographing her parents, including this couple’s engagement and wedding portraits as well as Mom Ashleigh’s bridal portraits. They are an amazing couple, both public servants and both community and family-oriented.
These two wed in 2012 and we’ve seen them around our small town plenty of times since then. After some health complications, Ashleigh planned to have a hysterectomy – it was ON her calendar – and then found out that she was pregnant just a few months prior. God has His plan and timeline, and He answered prayers in a way that He has been doing throughout their marriage. Now, they are a family of five, not counting fur babies.
Little Nora is every bit the baby girl a parent would fall instantly and completely in love with. She’s teeny, she’s bright eyed and she is a near perfect little human. We’re are hungry for more of her and for more time with this family.
I cannot say enough how much I love this family and all that this couple does in their professional roles in public service. But even more, I admire their HUGE hearts and capacity for loving children more than you can possibly imagine.

“Roman is ‘pure joy and his smile will light up a room.'” Thus saith the mother of three boys. So either he’s pretty delicious or she has become inured to any type of baby behavior that isn’t precious. I’m guessing that it’s the former.
Traci Pierce admits that her third little man is her most mild-mannered, even keeled, and easiest baby. As the photographer of all her sons’ newborn, 6-month and first birthday portraits, I think it’s safe to say that she may have one of each kind of boy. All different and all yummy little individuals.
Traci went with the all white dress code and theme – a choice that is elegant, much like Traci herself. We kept it simple, fun and easy. What mother of three needs extra tasks? You’re right, sweet reader…. NONE!
Older brothers Holden (4 years) and Sawyer (3 years) had basically the same palette for their photo sessions back in the day. The similarities in their faces is uncanny, so I encourage you to check out those blogs featuring them.
The little video packages we create are such a fun way for parents to share the photos from our session with family, keep for posterity, watch and re-watch, and of course use later as bribes.
Roman: you have a cool name, like your brothers’ names. You are already a classic. And like them, you have a sweet face, and some pretty awesome parents. Go get ’em, young man! We love you.
