The Coffey Family Outdoor Portrait Photos

Capturing Timeless Moments in the Brushy Mountains of Moravian Falls, NC

As the leaves begin to turn vibrant hues of orange, red, and gold, there’s no better time to photograph a family’s love and connection than during the breathtaking fall season in North Carolina. This was precisely the vision behind the Coffey family’s outdoor portrait session with Pixels on Paper Photography. Nestled in the serene beauty of the Brushy Mountains in Moravian Falls, the setting created a picturesque backdrop for unforgettable memories.

The Magic of Fall in Moravian Falls

Moravian Falls, NC, is one of the hidden gems of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its rolling hills, majestic views, and colorful fall foliage provide the perfect canvas for capturing the essence of nature and the warmth of family. The fall season adds an extra layer of charm to this already beautiful area—crisp air, golden sunlight, and the smell of autumn leaves filling the air. It’s as if nature herself was inviting the Coffey family to step into a scene straight out of a storybook.

Pixels on Paper Photography couldn’t have chosen a more stunning location for the family’s portrait session. With the Brushy Mountains as a backdrop, the fall colors provided the perfect complement to the family’s vibrant personalities. From the golden yellows of the oak trees to the deep reds of the maples, the landscape itself seemed to celebrate the Coffey family’s bond.

The Family Connection: Capturing Moments of Joy

The Coffey family, full of love and laughter, was a joy to photograph. Their close-knit relationships and natural connection were apparent from the moment the session began. Whether it was a shared laugh between siblings or a loving embrace between parents, Pixels on Paper Photography worked with them to capture these candid moments that truly reflect their story.

One of the most beautiful parts of family portraits is seeing the genuine expressions of love and affection between family members. As the sun dipped lower into the sky, creating that warm, golden hour light, the Coffey family shared moments of joy in front of the camera. From playful interactions with their children to tender moments between the parents, each frame told a story of togetherness and affection.

A Family’s Legacy in Nature

Outdoor portraits in the mountains are not just about taking a picture; they’re about capturing the essence of the family in a place that means something special to them. The Brushy Mountains are more than just a beautiful backdrop—they are part of the Coffey family’s story. Whether they’ve spent years living there, hiking the trails, exploring the woods, and simply enjoying the beauty of this area, these portraits will forever be a reminder of this special time in their lives.

The combination of nature’s splendor and family love resulted in photographs that transcend time. These portraits will be passed down through generations, each one telling the story of the Coffey family and the beautiful autumn day they spent together in the Brushy Mountains.

The Arnold Family

Timing. It’s in the stars, I think sometimes. Once again, we made plans for a photo shoot with LONG TIME clients and pals Meghan and Jeremy Arnold and ended up changing them due to access and Covid-19. But who can complain when the results are so beautiful? We found ourselves perfectly happy on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne.

Big baseball fan and player Jeremy grew up in Hickory and has great memories of playing games on their campus. What a gorgeous day we had and with their two children, and our Finley in tow, it could not have been a better spot.

We’ve photographed this family since the very beginning before Meghan and Jeremy were married. From their engagement, wedding, the birth of daughter Berklee and then son Wyatt, we’ve watched them all grow as a family.

At nearly every shoot, we grab an image of Jeremy tossing daughter Berklee in the air, and I’m so pleased that this tradition has held.

Ryan took these images, while I assisted with lens, styling, finding the next spot and wrangling the little ones.

I love both the dynamic images and the posed as well. With families who have young ones, it is less important to pose than it is to get a sense of their connection as a family and their individual personalities.

When I think back to the engagement portraits for Jeremy and Meghan, I cannot believe the passage of time. But I see them all together, looking every bit like they waltzed out of a J. Crew catalog, and think: they are exactly where and who they should be.

Holland Family Fall Photos

This beautiful family just takes my breath away. I know I say this a lot, but it is a point of pride: so many of our ongoing clients have become true friends. The Holland family falls squarely into that category and even a pandemic and wacky schedules didn’t keep us from seeing them for portraits this year.

Mom Tram, Dad Kevin, son Colten, and daughters Ava and Sophia are a blended family so on top of the pandemic and teens and other sets of parents, their schedule is formidable.

For outdoor fall portraits this year, we had 24 hours notice to pull together the portrait session. Sophia, the eldest, was in Raleigh for part of quarantine, so once we had a plan, we went to their gorgeous property where they have built a cabin to shoot images in the stunning fall surroundings.

This place has loads of acreage, tractors (Finley loved being able to run around with Colten and making the girls giggle) and at 8:30 am, we had The. Best. Light. Morning light is a photographer’s dream, so it all came together.

Tram (rhymes with “mom” which makes perfect sense if you know her) has become a friend of mine and we share the same love of gardening (often trading from our personal bounties), share the same love of the outdoors, and she is fun and affectionate with kids, so having Finley present and ready to roam and run around was only a “plus” in her eyes.

There was a lot of laughing, with their dog Pearl stealing the show, and plenty of playing and giggling with Finley so the smiles in these shots aren’t faked.

We’ve photographed this crew at Christmas and each time (2016 and 2019), it has been at their home and is themed of course. Families who hire us for Christmas portraits don’t normally order prints for hanging since they are seasonal, but Tram ordered all of these photos and they are going to hang them in the cabin.

We love, LOVE the Hollands and cannot wait to return to this enchanted spot with them again soon.

FUN ASIDE: All photos below are Finley’s “behind the scenes” shots taken with his Sony Cybershot camera while with us on location at the Holland’s. He came to play and work… Love my boy.

We’ve made it to Labor Day during a global pandemic. Somehow, someway, here we are. I am grateful and I am ready for fall. We hope you all are taking care of yourselves as kids return to whatever version of school is on deck for them. Now: it’s time to talk about fall portraits of your family, your children and even the holidays.

Anderson Outdoor Fall Family Portraits

Pixels On Paper Photographers Wilkesboro NC Anderson Family Outdoor Fall Portrait Photography Photo

When it was time to schedule their daughter Ashleigh’s senior portraits, father Scott said, “why not take pictures of the entire family?” I’ve learned that you never say no to an opportunity to get everyone together – especially when you have teenagers. AND ESPECIALLY WHEN IT’S DAD’S IDEA. Show of hands: how many times has your husband or boyfriend said, let’s get our portraits taken?

We photographed the Anderson family in Stone Mountain just a few weeks ago and, as mentioned, ended up with two photo shoots instead of one. Jenny was my very best friend all through elementary and high school and since returning to Wilkesboro almost a decade ago, we’ve been photographing her family. I love her and, naturally we love this clan.

Not too long ago (a couple of years maybe), we had an outdoor family portraits session with the Andersons and Jenny’s sister’s family, the Scotts. Like this one, it was in the fall. I love seeing how the kids have grown even since then. Faces may change slightly, and size, but their personalities really begin to sparkle. There’s something about seeing a kid you knew as a child just along for the ride, suddenly as a young adult willing to take up some space. It’s pretty special.

Daughter Ashleigh is a senior in high school and was part of our recent blog about prom portraits. Son Owen has grown a foot since we last saw him; Ashleigh is headed off to college soon and we loved spending time with this family cracking up, swapping stories and silly verbal jabs and watching them show off their lively family dynamic.

Jenny and Scott’s personalities really shined through in these images. When Jenny came to view the proofs, she brought Ashleigh and they both agreed that the images captured who they are every day, not just in front of a camera. I remember Jenny and Scott when they fell in love in high school… nothing has changed and, I must say, that gives me hope! Love can last, ya’ll and gets better in time.

If you love outdoor family portraits, give us a call. It’s getting colder out, but it’s never too soon to plan for the spring. To the Andersons, we love you! Talk soon!
