glorious outdoor maternity portraits

Reagan Greene Bynum is someone I’ve known for a while – since childhood frankly. We grew up together and lived just down the road from each other. There’s something so edifying and amazing about seeing people from your childhood at various stages in life. At 36 weeks, we captured her in special places that hold fond childhood memories for her, and near where she and her husband Sam now live. She avoided having maternity portraits taken with her first child, but decided she didn’t want to miss the opportunity with her second and she was an absolute vision in red.Pixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC outdoor NC Mountain maternity photoPixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC outdoor NC Mountain maternity photoPixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC outdoor NC Mountain maternity photoPixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC outdoor NC Mountain maternity photoPixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC outdoor NC Mountain maternity photoPixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC outdoor NC Mountain maternity photoPixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC outdoor NC Mountain maternity photoReagan and I share a kindred spirit and I consider photographing her a true blessing. In November, she gave birth to her second son, baby Keegan (Little Bear). The shot below is taken in front of the very same waterfall where she and Sam said their wedding vows.

Rylee Raynor Newborn Photos

This late summer brought a new life to Chris & Jess Raynor. Rylee Kathleen arrived on September 26th. All babies are beautiful – at least the ones we’ve photographed. Rylee is a cutie-pie. We’re long-time pals with her parents, so we got time to hang out, catch up and snuggle her to bits. Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photo
We’ve known Chris and Jess through the Charlotte sports industry for a very long time. We photographed their engagement,  their  wedding and were glad that they took us up on our offer for free newborn photos. We offer this to all of our wedding clients.
Rylee was about as perfect during her session as a newborn can be. She knows how to rock the pink and her nursery is filled with mint green, coral, pinks and lavender. Her nursery also contains a large photo from Jess’ wedding bouquet that we photographed years prior. We used that as inspiration for all the backdrops and props. The result is girlie at its best and just so much fun to shoot.

Remembering Virginia Ruth Roberts

Today, instead of our usual blog about trends, the business of photography, our lives and beloved clients, we’re going to pause to remember a spectacular human being: Virginia Ruth Roberts. For us, this blog is truly personal, because this lady was loved by everyone.

Virginia passed away merely 4 days ago on December 6th at the age of 87 at her home. For the full obituary and some other details, you can go here.

To Ryan and me, this special lady was someone we got to know through photographing the bridal and wedding of her grand-daughter Meghann Roberts Clawson and the engagement and wedding of her grandson Preston Roberts.

Virginia was loving and inspiring and, as a former teacher – she shined and brought that bright light to shine on everyone she met. Her love of life and others was contagious, so each time we were hired to photograph these big family milestones, we relished knowing that we were going to get time with her. She really was a jewel.

When I text her family through tears and asked what I could do, they were eager to hear that I would provide photos and it was an honor to send them. I know looking at them brought me enormous joy and smiles and did her family too. She touched all of us and Ryan and I are beyond grateful that we were able to orbit around Virginia as long as we did. She wasn’t our family, per se, but she felt like she was.

We’re missing and loving you today, Virginia Ruth.

an outdoor & themed maternity shoot

I LOVE seeing intention, purpose and participation from clients in our photo shoots and Judy Saas had all three. She and her husband Travis Senter are great friends of ours that have recently invested in our full year baby photography plan. [Contact us to learn more.]
Judy came to me with some ideas around her maternity portrait session in October 21st when she would be about 37 weeks pregnant. She wanted a theme that was about strength, independence and the go-getter atitude she hopes to instill in the little girl she was expecting. One of the characters she chose was Rosie the Riveter – the WWII icon of strength and fortitude that is now a symbol of feminism. The perfect location for that was in a friend’s garage which is appropriately themed and adorned with a classic hot rod.

Seriously – come on! The image of Judy above just kills me every time I look at it. Wouldn’t you love to have that picture of your mom to look at someday?
The second phase of the shoot was a sharp pivot and represents both Judy and Travis’ love of nature. Judy thought, “water.” These two spend a great deal of their free time in kayaks on the rivers in western NC. So, even though it was 42 degrees outside, Mama to be was determined to wade in the New River in Jefferson NC to capture a shot. The photos do not disappoint and I think are some of my favorites that capture a dreamy vision of Judy and the Mom she is.

Portraits make PERFECT Christmas Gifts

While a picture may or may not be worth a thousand words, it IS most decidedly worth a thousand hugs of gratitude, a thousand THANK YOUS and a thousand days of the recipient feeling loved by you. The gift giving season is upon us and one of the best gifts (it makes the list every year) is a photograph.
Weddings, births, graduations, family reunions, bridals, engagements, baby’s first birthday……. you get the idea. If Pixels has photographed you, now would be a great time to make one of those portraits into a gift for someone. Electronics are great. Clothes are great. Cookware, robes, ties, subscriptions… all of that stuff is great. Who doesn’t love a new leaf-blower? Well, not me, but I get it. But stuff breaks down, gets upgraded, lost, used up or simply outlasts your care for it. Photos of people you love do not. Trust me.
Birthdays, anniversaries, and certainly Christmas – portraits of milestones and important memories make the best gifts. Give it some thought and get in touch!
