Wilkes Wedding Expo 2019
We’ll be there again this year with our own booth ready to meet brides-to-be, see other wedding professionals and talk about what we love and have been doing for nearly 15 years.
The Wilkes Wedding Expo is one of our favorite events because we’ve been a vendor and taken photos of the event for so many years, and met so many brides and couples who’ve become clients, friends and like family to Ryan and me. Those connections have led to such strong bonds that we always look forward to March each year. There’s an enormous amount of expectation and fun in the air and talking photography, venues, spring and summer weddings and big plans gooses us into gear.
Here are the details, but you can visit https://wilkesweddingexpo.weebly.com/ or Bridal Traditions to learn more if you are a bride ready to get organized!
Sunday, March 10, 2019
at The John A. Walker Center
from 1:00pm until 4:00pm
See you there!

Be a Part of Merlefest 2019
Our contracts are signed and we’re looking forward to photographing another MerleFest! This will be our 5th year, but our commitment to this annual event goes beyond our official photography duties.
The lineup looks incredible as always and headliners include: Wynonna & The Big Noise, Keb’ Mo’, The Earls of Leicester, Sam Bush, Tyler Childers, Brandi Carlile, and Peter Rowan and The Free Mexican Air Force with Los Texmaniacs. Recently The Avett Brothers, Molly Tuttle and Sean McConnell were added to the mix and we could not be more excited.
Our commitment to Merlefest goes beyond our duties as Official Photographers. Ryan is a member of the North Wilkesboro Rotary club and every year the organization operates the artist merchandise tent. All CDs, albums, t-shirts, hats, posters, and more are sold to the public in this one space and Ryan and I have been volunteering in the merch tent with rotary even longer than we’ve been photographing. We’ll be there again this year doing our part and the Rotary needs volunteers. Anyone interested can contact Ryan directly. If you follow us on Facebook, you can reach out through our page.
For those of you who want to attend and volunteer this year, and we hope you will, because it’s an experience you will not soon forget. The people, the venue, the brilliant musicians, you’ll enjoy being a part of an annual event that brings a lot of joy to our area.
This year’s Merlefest is April 25th through the 28th. See you there!

A newborn photo shoot – It’s a girl
This ridiculously gorgeous family found us through a friend referral and we feel beyond blessed to be seeing them again. We captured the mom’s maternity portraits and it wasn’t long before the welcomed their second child – a precious little girl.
Marion was born on her exact due date: December 3, 2018 and, as a lover of old-fashioned names, I’m a fan of hers already. I love how it evokes another time, the tradition of family names and makes me think of timeless beauty. This little rosebud is named after one of her grandmothers.
Big brother Conner has had his world turned upside down, but was gentle and so cute with his new sister. The shots of him with her are some of my faves. Between the Christmas pajamas and his animated body language, he very nearly upstaged the new kid in town.
Adorned in pink, neutrals and lace, her hands to her face and eyes to the camera, Marion reminded me of a cherub.
This grouping of shots just kills me. Brother and sister play – right out of the gate. We asked mom and dad which brand of Cute Pills they were buying at the local pharmacy to get This Level of Cute (that has to be the tagline… you know? “Your babies can be THIS LEVEL OF CUTE! with just two pills per day!”).
Congrats to this sweet family on the new light in their lives.

Newborn Portraits of Ava
We photographed parents Judy and Travis’ maternity session and loved seeing how excited and hopeful they were.
On November 8th of 2018, sweet Ava was born and she already looks like a painting. With a head full of hair and a heart full of spunk, she has been keeping her Mom and Dad awake ever since.
We photographed her newborn photos at just 8 days old in our studio. Ava’s parents are fun, colorful people and happen to be friends of ours so we knew they would bring color into this newborn shoot. Mom’s favorite color is purple so there was plenty of that included for the session. There’s something about knowing the family that opens the doors to more personal photos. Case in point: we “made” Mom and Dad join their new bundle of joy for some of the photos. It was unplanned (Dad had to borrow a shirt from Ryan) but she will never be 8 days old ever again and we knew they would be glad she would have the option to look back on photos that include her new parents.

Martinez family portraits
Have you ever been given a gift that made you dissolve into tears? I’m not talking about the newlywed whose husband gives her a microwave for Christmas. I’m talking about something of true, intrinsic value that makes you so happy that you cry tears of joy. When we take portraits of families and tears of joy appear during the viewing, it is the highest compliment. And that happened recently when we photographed the Martinez family.
Mike and Janet Martinez are current clients on the corporate side (their headshots for 2019) for their real estate business, and they asked us to capture some new family portraits that would include their children and grand children.
We chose the greenway in North Wilkesboro specifically because of its many backdrops and ease of moving from location to location along the greenway itself and the river. As photographers, we also love the bridge and steel textures but also views of leaves and river. Janet wanted to have more relaxed and less traditional “posey shots” and wanted several family groupings too.
As part of the session, Janet wanted to get some individual senior portraits of their son and some fun portraits of their daughter who will be celebrating her quinceanera. She chose to wear a family heirloom dress that has been passed down in the Martinez family for generations, but she traded in the traditional hoop skirt for Chuck Taylor shoes.
After the tears dried, we worked with Janet to create family holiday cards that they sent out this year as well as wall art for their home.
