New branding for Solo Law Practice
Several years ago, we created a new logo, business cards and letterhead for Jessica Graham of Fionix Consulting and recently we were contacted to work on another project attendant to her business.
After 38 years as a NC Certified Family Law Specialist, Alan Krusch decided to hang out his own shingle in a solo law practice. The new business is Krusch Divorce Resolution and as he was working with Fionix, Jessica kindly brought us on board to help with his branding look and visual vocabulary. Alan specializes in non-litigated family law and was in need of a new brand.
The first thing addressed was the need for a brand new logo and it was important to keep it more traditional, solid, and classic while still incorporating a current, more modern take. As always, Ryan created a logo with meaning and purpose: the arch above the name evokes a bridge, representing the movement from one place in life to another – something akin to both transition and hope. He also used the sky blue and earthy green that Alan is drawn to. This logo mark and font treatment will be used across all of Alan’s promotions, starting with his business cards and letterhead.
Next, we needed updated headshots for his new website and any other collateral, so we captured those, along with several others, at Alan’s new office location. Having created collateral more times than we can count, we knew to capture a combination of traditional location headshots and more interactive environmental portraiture.
Individuals and businesses come to us knowing that they need “the basics”: business cards, headshots and letterhead, and we can provide these easily. What Pixels can do that other professional photographers may not is to provide branding expertise and forethought. We know that beyond those basics, clients will need other promotional items. Ryan has nearly 20 years in branding and marketing experience and our combined knowledge allow us to be branding collaborators with clients – something all businesses need. Clients want to focus on what they do. Pixels can shoulder the branding aspects for you.
Contact us if you have any questions or needs or if you know someone starting a new business or updating a tired brand. We would love to learn more and assist if we can.

kathryn lily interiors photos of designer home
There is an African proverb that goes: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want far, go together.” Collaboration is a beautiful thing for many reasons and recently we experienced that again on the commercial side of our photography business. We were contacted by the owner of KLI – Kathryn Lily Interiors, Jody Kurtz, to photograph her designs for the interiors of a gorgeous home.
KLI collaborated with MBI, the builders of the house at the Blue Ridge Mountain Club development. We’ve photographed MBI projects in the past and when they referred Kurtz to us, we were excited to spend some time focusing on the interior design work.
For this project, Ryan was on duty and worked directly with Jody and a member of her design team, to capture their clean and elegant styling in each room. They discussed the shot list and coordinated seamlessly. Ryan said that because they knew what they wanted and stayed a room or two ahead of him, he was able to get a cache of amazing photos of the entire house in a matter of hours.
In the past, when we’ve taken architectural images for commercial use, we’ve focused on the construction and craftsman aspects of the build, things like cabinetry, countertops, exteriors, decks, custom fireplaces and so on. For this shoot there was shift in focus on the finishes that Kathryn Lily Interiors put into that space. There are shots that show off the overall space, but also more intimate photos of certain design aspects, textures, color patterns and overall balance. Ryan loved working with the KLI team and appreciated the organization and creativity of that partnership and collaboration. Beautiful results in the home and in the images.

Ready for Spring? Orchard portrait sessions
I recently watched a movie about Mary Shelley – the author of the book Frankenstein. In it, Shelley creates a character literally stitched together to be a human and the creature experiences great loneliness. In fact, he becomes a symbol for loneliness and is perceived as a monster. Sad, right? But it made me think about shorthand and symbols and what’s next for us this year. And I thought of something much, much lighter: spring.
I know, maybe it’s the daffodils that burst through first with such reckless optimism and hope on warm February days, but one of the symbols of spring for me are the blossoms that we photograph each year at our favorite orchards. I think of Easter, of blooms, of families, rebirth, sun and warmth and I always, always think of these orchards we love so much.
As the coming weeks bring warmer temps and longer days (March 10th begins daylight savings, gang), we will be scheduling outdoor portrait sessions in these orchards for newly engaged couples, families, Easter photos, and shots of friends and families who just want to celebrate a milestone or celebrate spring.
Pixels proudly wears the mantel of being the exclusive photographers and it’s time to start thinking about scheduling your session with us. Contact us and we’ll discuss the details.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Kate & Otis celebrate 50 years together
So a couple of things stuck with me after this recent photo session (read: party). One, I love it when people understand the true value of a printed photo. It’s not because it’s my profession to take pictures, it’s because I feel like I’ve met a landsman… someone from “my homeland or country” who appreciates what I appreciate. I value printed images. I love seeing framed photos at people’s homes when I’m there. I love thinking of them deciding that that particular image was so wonderful, they printed it, framed it and put it on a mantel, office desk or bedside table. They thought, “I want to see this as often as possible and to be reminded.”
Two, it stuck with me that lovers of printed photos know that images are not only daily pieces of joy, they can last longer than a life.
When Ryan photographed the celebration of 50 years of marriage for Kate and Otis McNeil, Kate said “Not to be morbid, but truly a complement to your work: These are the photos we are proud to have displayed at our funeral whenever that day comes.” And she wasn’t morbid, or sad or even wistful. She meant it and that means the world to us.
Kate & Otis McNeil celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 8th of 2018 (their actual anniversary is December 22, 1968) with a massive party at The Event Center at Summit Square in Winston Salem, NC. So much thought, effort, preparation, coordination and love went into making this a special evening.
Family and friends came from all of the US to reunite and celebrate.
In speaking with Kate during the months leading up to the event to coordinate the photos it was obvious what a momentous occasion this was for her and Otis. We loved that it was not lost on them how important marriage is and what a triumph of love, commitment and fortitude 50 years is.
Kate wanted to make sure that we captured the party atmosphere, but she was especially keen that Ryan took plenty of posed and candid images of all their family that would be in attendance. So we coordinated family members photos prior to the event start time, much like a wedding.
After the event, Kate and Otis ordered images of their kids, grandkids and themselves and many members of their extended families have also ordered photos of themselves with their children’s families. It fills me up thinking of all those family members, spread out all over the country, seeing the same images from that day hanging somewhere in their homes.
If you take the time to celebrate a life, a marriage, a graduation, a birth – and you plan a gathering or party around it with guests and family, really make it an event – we encourage you to hire a photographer to capture those images that you’ll want to see on your desk and look at daily and those you’ll want people to remember you by later.

NC Commercial Photographers
Professional photographers often fall into specific style buckets, but Ryan and I have been blessed with the opportunity to work in multiple categories, and develop our skills in each. We’ve been at this for a while, gang. Pixels On Paper photographs not only families and babies, weddings and engagements and all the valuable, personal milestones, but we cover events like Merlefest, capture documentary sessions that are more “slice of life” and finally, something we may do more of than you think, commercial photography.
Businesses need images, and stock photography – while valuable – can never give you what custom, proprietary images can: authenticity and identity.
Ryan’s background in graphic design and branding, and our shared knowledge of what businesses often want to convey, but cannot through generic photos, have made it possible for us to understand and meet the needs of commercial enterprises with sharp, beautiful composed and targeted images.
Pixels works with architects and builders, real estate agents and firms, big popular events like the organizers of Merlefest, non-profits, entrepreneurs, small and large businesses and nearly everything in between. Headshots, exterior and interiors, group shots, product images and more.
We bring the same honed skills, years of experience, time and respect for the clients needs to our commercial work that we commit when doing more personal photography.
