Wilkes Wedding Expo 2019
Every year in March, Pixels on Paper attends the Wilkes Wedding Expo held at Wilkes Community College and it is always a treat. Vendors flank the space with their booths and displays and show attending brides-to-be what they do best. We love this event because it effectively kicks off the wedding season in our area. The event is hosted by Bridal Traditions and owner Kelly Shumate. This woman is tireless, and also happens to be a friend. I thought I’d share a little gallery of some of our fellow vendors from the Expo this year. We were, again, the official photographers and pleased to say that the event was a huge success!
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Prom Photos 2019
Prom season is basically here. Dresses are being bought and further glam-o-fied, tuxes are being rented, limos lined up and plans made and we’re ready too. For those jazzed for prom portraits that are truly memorable and share-worthy, contact us and we’ll capture your tribe all decked out. We’ve been taking shots already in preparing for what is often the most fun evening of high school. Seniors!! Heads-up: make a point of doing more than grabbing shots with your phones.
In the meantime, here are some of our favorite shots from proms gone by.

love is in the details
Little, personalized touches are often what makes one wedding different than all others and our advice to each couple we photograph is to find ways to make their wedding day personalized. Some couples pick 2-3 specific items to focus on – succulents and a nod to a shared love of cycling for example (see below) – or a love of Dr. Who and their college school colors. But whether it’s some trinket added to the bride’s bouquet, or a lines from a poem painted and featured around the reception hall, incorporating those special items of significance throughout the décor, food and flowers can make an event memorable.
One of the neat things about us even though we’re on year 14 of photographing weddings together is that our perspectives are totally different. Ryan absolutely loves the small details and he loves to photograph them. No matter how hard I try, his are always better. He just has a knack for it.
We love to see when a couple’s personalities are incorporated into wedding details and decor, even if it’s just subtle hints. Sometimes a lot of time, effort and creativity go into making these details and we certainly want to be sure that they’re photographed uniquely. Favorite books, family heirlooms, inside jokes, modern takes on wedding toppers, it’s all as specific as each couple is different.

Weddings, Weddings & More
People like Ryan and myself who are in the wedding industry, feel spring and summer rushing our way like a runaway train. It’s always fun, but it’s a busy time of year. The first day of spring was just marked off the calendar and we’re gearing up for Merlefest, prom, graduation and of course weddings of all sorts. For the next month or so, we’ll be focusing on all the aspects of the wedding season and celebrating one of life’s biggest celebrations. Today, I want to share more from our 14 years in the business of photographing weddings!
Whether we’re capturing the couple alone or surrounded by their crew of family and friends, the setting or the details, the rush and hubbub of a wedding is exhilarating.
Stay tuned, wedding fans, because there is much more to come on the wedding front.

Spring Engagement Portraits
I’m on a spring kick here at Pixels HQ and I thought I would share some of my favorite outdoor portraits sessions of brides and grooms-to-be. Spring is nearly here and summer is on its heels. That spells: Engagement!
I say this pretty regularly, but WNC is one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Add springtime and it’s explosively beautiful. If you’re engaged and ready to capture your first portraits as an official couple, contact us and we’ll start choosing the best spots and making plans.
