Newborn Angelina James
She’s here and she’s here early! Meet Angelina James. Her parents Jessica and Bobby are a couple we’ve known for a while and a family we love dearly. Adding to their ranks was completely approved by everyone who knows them.
This sweet girl was born 3 weeks early, but she is a healthy baby, weighing in at 8 lbs and 11 oz. The new parents and baby came to our studio and it was an easy, fun and safe shoot.
We shot Jessie and Bobby’s maternity portraits and this couple comes to PLAY. They love outfits and themes and for Angelina’s first portraits, they did not disappoint.
Purple is one of Jessica’s favorite colors and with the various and adorable outfit changes, that color still factored in.
Dad Bobby is a lacrosse coach in Charlotte and he wanted to incorporate some gear in the images. What a stitch!! This little doll fit perfectly into the goalie stick’s netting. She was equally delicious dressed up as a little elephant (another of Bobby’s choices). This child………. what a dream!
Love this image of Angelina – the wee elephant, snuggling her “lovey” and fellow elephant.
Only newborns and their parents are being hosted in our studio at this point, due to Covid-19, and our need to follow strict protocols. We will be welcoming this crew back very soon. Jessica and Bobby bought our one year baby portrait package, so we look forward to more cute outfits, more laughs and more celebration of this sweet little girl.

Expecting Baby Driver
This is not a reference to the 2017 film with Ansel Elgort and Lily James. Rather, this is a recent maternity shoot of a lovely couple in the NC Mountains. Macy & Jesse are expecting their first child, a girl, any day now. They called the pregnancy their honeymoon surprise, but will probably name the child something entirely different. 😉 They are the cutest couple.
The couple came to us when Macy was at 34 weeks and we met up in a special mountain spot, because this mama-to-be loves the mountains, loves vistas and scenery.
Despite mentioning that they are not particularly into public displays of affection, the pair were so touchy and sweet together and this helped me capture images that will become keepsakes for this family.
They say that the best gift you can give a child is a set of parents that love each other and show it. I feel good about the future for this baby girl.
Once again, during this session, I realized how absolutely ratified I feel about what I do and why. Maternity photo shoots give me such joy and every setting, especially these outdoor portrait sessions in the mountains – with Macy in her especially chosen blue dress, are just the magic.

Expecting baby Triplett
If you follow this blog with any regularity, you’ve heard my sermons about the importance of capturing milestones because once they are gone, they are gone for good. Here’s another story from the file folder and it happened recently.
Tabitha, a school mate of mine, called me about her daughter Caitlin who is expecting a baby. She wanted to make sure that she had maternity portraits taken. In the past few months, Tabitha lost several family members and was feeling the sadness that comes from loss and the passage of time. She was determined that memories and milestones, especially for her own child, would not be missed. So at 34 weeks, this gorgeous mom to be, her husband and Tabitha herself all met me for an outdoor maternity photo session.
We met at a park where we could socially distance while taking advantage of the natural elements. I LOVE these photos. They invigorate me. I love the light, their smiles, and the sense of expectation and hope in a year that has been largely about challenges and worry about the future.
Expecting mothers have loads of fears and now there are even more. They want their own moms to be present during the birth and that is difficult during a pandemic. The new restrictions, on top of the usual anxiety, make pregnancy even harder. These photo shoots are a time to put them at ease and allow me to be an “encourager” as well as a photographer.
It won’t be long now before Caitlin and Matthew are holding their new baby and feeling like the world is shifting toward the light. A new baby is a blessing, even during the toughest times and I’m so delighted that Tabitha was so adamant about making this happen for her daughter and son-in-law. The images are gorgeous.

The Caudills – 4 Generations of Family
We recently got a call from a photography client and friend with some news and a request. Daniel Caudill shared that his grandfather’s health had changed and he wanted to make sure that there were family photos of ALL of them together – from his grandparents down to great-grandchildren. 2020 has made social distancing a priority, but families still need to see each other, feel some normalcy and spend time together, so Ryan took off to their family home to take pictures.
Even though the weather was warm, everyone gathered to see the matriarch and patriarch of the family, play in the yard, and catch up. Ryan told me he orbited around the groups between setups, teasing the kids, talking to the adults and reminiscing about times Pixels has photographed this tribe. We think this makes 10 times we’ve been honored to photograph these folks.
When the heat became too much, everyone went inside where they told stories and Ryan said he felt like a member of the family and was treated as such. They sat for a long time, laughing and relishing each others company. Being able to do this is extremely special for us and one of the reasons we love our jobs so much.
We captured Daniel and Sarah (below, back row, on the right) in photo shoots for their engagement, wedding, post-wedding time at Faithfest and then later took Daniel’s professional head shots when he became a realtor. Getting his call sent us into action, of course. We love all these guys so much.
Ashley and Oscar Orozco (below, top left with grandparents and their two children) have been beloved clients of ours for a while too and they are also part of the Caudill clan. We photographed their engagement portraits, their wedding, newborn portraits of daughter Anna Sophia, and their first born Leo’s portraits. We even spent time in our favorite orchard for a springtime family portrait session.
We are not promised tomorrow, but we can be grateful today. We are thinking of this amazing family today and everyday and are so glad we were able to take a collection of family portraits that each member can hold dear for decades to come.
