We’ve worked in the Charlotte wedding industry with Rachel for many years. When it was her turn to be married and she asked Pixels On Paper to be her and Jeremy’s wedding photographer for their Charlotte wedding we were thrilled and honored that she would choose us. This wedding was one of the most emotionally touching and enthusiastic weddings we’ve photographed.
Rachel and Jeremy’s story is unique in that their love did not only involve each other but also Rachel’s daughter Sophia. A short time after Rachel gave birth to Sophia, Rachel was encouraged by her sister to get back into the dating world. Through EHarmony she met Jeremy. We all know a lot of guys that would freak out at this situation and after the first date never be heard from again. Jeremy is not one of those guys. They got to know each other for about a week, went on one date and cancelled their E-harmony memberships! Sophia joined them for their second date and it was obvious that they were meant to become an incredible little family.
Photographing this wedding was easy. In part because Rachel was the wedding planner for the Holiday Inn Center City Charlotte. Lets face it, she had thought of everything and was crazy organized! The main reason it was easy to be their wedding photographer was because the whole day in Charlotte was full of emotion, energy, details and LOVE. We think that even if you don’t personally know this couple you will surely feel the moments we captured in their wedding pictures.
Rachel and Jeremy chose to share a First Look before the wedding ceremony so that they could have a private moment before their wedding and also get as many photographs taken so that they could go to their wedding reception and start celebrating with their wedding guests sooner. We loved photographing this moment between the two of them discreetly from a distance.
The wedding ceremony was located on the roof top rotunda of the Holiday Inn Center City Charlotte. Sophia seemed to be celebrating during the ceremony just as much as Rachel and Jeremy. During their vows Jeremy also made a commitment to Sophia and gave her a necklace during the ceremony as a sign of his love to her.
We captured wedding pictures of the couple and their wedding party in and around the Holiday Inn Center City Charlotte, at one of the new center city parks in uptown Charlotte, and along the tracks of the Charlotte Lynx Light Rail which they used as transportation to the wedding reception.
The wedding reception was located just outside of uptown Charlotte at Byron’s Southend. The Michael Catlow Group provided DJ entertainment that had the wedding party and guests celebrating on the dance floor all night.
We wish Rachel, Jeremy and Sophia all the very best that life and marriage has to offer. Remember, our blog loves comments!

We are so very delayed in completing a blog post that recaps the photos of our client’s and friends from 2012. You can’t possibly understand how difficult it is to look back through every photo session from last year and pick favorites. It’s February but it’s also better late than never! We continue to feel incredibly blessed that so many each and every year trust us to photograph and capture the most important memories of their lives. We met some amazing people, felt like a part of so many of these people’s lives, and more often than not were right there along side of them having just as much fun. We gained numerous friendships last year. 2012 brought engagement pics, wedding pictures, senior portraits, family portraits, newborn photography, photos of children, pet pics, and commercial photography. We even added studio portraits for the first time in the history of Pixels On Paper! We are inpatient when it comes to figuring out what 2013 will bring and excited about the photographs we will capture.
The following are our personal favorite images from each of those we photographed in 2012. Enjoy the view!

Rob and Teresa’s wedding was an picturesque outdoor setting in Rural VA with rolling hills in the background. There was one amazing wedding photo backdrop after another everywhere we turned. Teresa’s mother had a vision for bringing the indoors outside which set the scene at Falkland Farms in South Boston Virginia for a unique outdoor country wedding. Her attention to detail just put a special touch on everything. She used ideas and things that she knew meant a lot to Rob and Teresa which made it even more personal and special to the Bride and Groom who live in Charlotte.
We hope these wedding photos give you a sneak peek into their love story and their connection to family, friends, and the great outdoors.

Maren & Gordon went through incredible hurdles, challenges, and loss during the process of planning their wedding. Due to several unforeseeable reasons at last count their date on our schedule changed 3 times during the course of 15+ months of long distance planning.
Maren & Gordon originally planned to get married in March 2011 in Huntersville, NC, but due to a family illness it wasn’t possible. However, Maren had already quit her job and was planning to move to Scotland to be with Gordon but needed a visa and couldn’t get one without getting married. They decided to have a civil ceremony in Edinburgh Scotland on March 25. Both of their sets of parents and some of our siblings and friends were able to attend.
They then started planning again for the church ceremony / reception to be held in Huntersville, NC on 30 December 2011. Sadly there was a family tragedy and Gordon’s father passed away and they had to cancel the wedding a few weeks before it happened. So, third time’s a charm…they rescheduled for 15 September 2012 and it could not have been better. The weather was incredible…a perfect September day in North Carolina with blue skies, warm, but little humidity. The ceremony itself was very traditional and they were able to incorporate elements of both Southern charm and Scottish culture into the event including a bag piper, ceilidh band, huge wrap around southern porch with porch swing, large oak trees, etc.
Family and friends from all over the world who had never met before came together to celebrate. We were given the most incredible opportunity, to photograph it all. We hope Gordon and Maren can enjoy much less craziness in the coming years than they have experienced in the past two.
We offer up this Scottish Wedding Blessing to them and their marriage:
Help Us Remember
Lord help us to remember when
We first met and the strong
love that grew between us.
To work that love into
practical things so that nothing
can divide us.
We ask for words both kind
and loving and hearts always
ready to ask forgiveness
as well as to forgive.
Dear Lord, we put our
marriage into your hands.

We are always on the look out for cool interesting places to look for photo props, and are not shy about introducing ourselves to people we run into that work in the places we stop. As it turns out, one of these stops in Hickory last year led to us speaking with John and Ruth as we bargained on a few items for the new studio. As we discussed the gumball machine, a cool folding chair and of course luggage, the conversation turned towards the photography business we owned. That seemed to peak interest on their part because as it turns out, they were in the process of planning their own NC mountain wedding!
It is amazing how God has his hands in people’s lives, and on this day He made sure that this meeting happened. Over the next few months, we got to hear more about John and Ruth’s wedding plans and then they asked us to shoot their special day. We were thrilled! We had made a couple trips back to the store for more items or just to swing in to check up, and grew closer to this amazing couple. So much so that being there at Castle Ladyhawke the day of the wedding just felt like family.
The castle is perched high atop a hillside just west of Asheville and was the perfect setting for the fairytale ceremony. In all the years that we have been shooting weddings, never before have I been so intrigued by the vows that John and Ruth spoke to each other. They each spoke what they were going to be and do for each other, how they were going to be there and love each other, but the important part and what made it so amazing, was the response where they each received what the other said. True communication and acceptance of the meaning of being married.
After the ceremony, we had lots of fun walking the grounds around the castle with the newlyweds, even making it onto the top of the turret! It was obvious that they were meant for each other and it made our job easier.
The reception was filled with special touches that you could tell shaped who John and Ruth are. From the art canvas where guests were invited to help create a special piece to display, to the pillow everyone signed with love, to the handmade king and queen cake toppers, all the details were thought of. The theme of bees also played heavy into the decor, with little jars of honey for the guests to take home as a thank you favor and reminder of the day. One touching moment was when a neighbor and good friend sang a couple of songs to and for John and Ruth that caused a few damp eyes in the room.
We wish John and Ruth all the best, and we will surely be there with them as friends for the journey ahead!
