Christmas Portraits | Welcome Home

Misty 1976

We’re doing something different with our holiday portrait sessions this year. We’re bringing them home. As in to YOUR home. It’s where you live and it’s where the magic and memories live too. Photographs tell the story and evoke all the memories of the season even as they are frozen forever in that specific time. It only made sense to take your family portraits in the place you call home.

Misty 1978 – Gifts for my girlie AND my rugged side.

Let’s be honest: isn’t half the fun of old family photographs saying, “remember that couch? remember that carpet?” Or “that was our first year in that house and you insisted on having a mini-tree in your room.” Every family on earth looks at past Christmas photos and has these conversations, in reverie and laughter.

Misty 1981 – future Merlefest attendee and Official Photographer, thank you very much!

Ryan 1982 & 1986 with brothers and sister. LOVE the pjs. Sports, super heros and Little House on the Prairie.

Place matters, but so does family, so here’s the origin of this idea: We’ve had holiday portrait sessions at our Pixels indoor studio for years with great success, but this year, I could never settle on a theme I liked. Thinking through it all now, God was definitely showing me why. I wasn’t listening or obeying what he was leading me to do. Finally, about a week ago and after much discussion with Ryan and some fear, I listened and obeyed. I sent an email to a client who has always participated in and anticipated our Christmas sessions. Here’s an excerpt:

Because you inquired early regarding information about Christmas portraits and we’ve photographed yours for years, I’m writing to share my idea for Christmas photos. For us, this year has been hectic, challenging and rewarding all at the same time. Through it all I’ve been very reflective and God has been incredibly forthcoming in showing me direction and insight all along the way both in my personal journey and the path of our business. I want all the work we do to be done with intention and relevance.
Nothing is more important during the holidays (or anytime for that matter) than family. When trying to create the concept for this year’s Christmas theme “family” and “home” continued to resonate in my mind. I wanted a way to create a personal experience for each of our clients, so my resolution is to offer in-home Christmas sessions.
I want to capture families gathered around trees with handmade ornaments, trees where all the fragile ornaments are at a height away from little fingers, stockings are personalized and tree toppers are those that have been passed through generations. I’d love to capture children in their Christmas PJs while they show me an ornament they made at school. Children years from now will recognize their surroundings in a photograph. What it looks like is different for every single one of our clients.

all about prom 2013 fashion photo shoot

We had the opportunity again this year to participate with six other special event vendors in Wilkesboro and be the sole provider of photography for the 2nd annual All About Prom event. For two weeks in December representatives from each of five Wilkes County high schools competed on Facebook to be selected as the Prom Model to represent their school. Winners were given a full day of glamour, pampering and the high fashion model experience in exchange for representing all that the event sponsors have to offer in the latest prom fashions and services. Each girl was fitted with two complete glamorous wardrobes by Bridal Traditions Wedding and Prom attire that included dress, shoes, and jewelry accessories.  Intricate matching nail design using everything from crystals to glitter were created by Valery Guevara of Blossom Salon & Butterfly Boutique. Dominique Nunn also of Blossom Salon transformed each girl with glamour makeup, sometimes incorporating feathers and sequins, that was uniquely created to coordinate with the formal dresses they would be wearing. Andrea Hunt of Cut Ups Salon styled each model’s  hair using fashion forward techniques that were ahead of the trends. The finishing touch added to each model as she entered our studio portrait sets were unique floral accessories designed by Denise Brooks of Innovative Occasions. Denise took the old tradition of corsage and boutonnieres to a whole new level. What’s a fashion photo shoot without a professional videographer on set? Shaun Cardwell of Divine Treasures Videography captured moving images and created a stunning short film of the day.Three completely custom photo backdrops were designed at the Pixels On Paper portrait studio. Ryan and Misty both took turns all day  photographing each model and making each one truly experience the Pixels On Paper difference both on set and later when seeing their final photos. Pixels offers unique and creative portrait photography. Forget about those horribly traditional photos made during prom where they make you say cheese and place you in a stiff traditional pose. Pixels will make sure you have a blast getting great photos that make you feel and look like a Rock Star or High Fashion Model. halloween mini sessions | pixels on paper portrait studio | nc mountain children’s photographer

Hard to believe that Fall is here and Halloween is literally just around the corner. It’s OCTOBER ALREADY! In regards to some aspects we’re blown away with how quickly this year has gone by but then it seems a little slower with regards to others  (think studio construction).

The BIG news? We are only a matter of weeks away from officially moving into the new studio! We’ll still be shooting on location anywhere and everywhere you can imagine. But the best part is that we will not be in search of indoor locations during the winter months. And we’re really really excited about all the cool backdrops we get to design and stuff that’s going to be re-purposed.

The new studio address:

1198 Curtis Bridge Rd., Wilkesboro NC if you use GPS 1198 Johnson Lane seems to be the key.

Note that initially we will be open by appointment only.

Since we’re already working at the studio, and it’s Halloween time, and you have cuties dressed as a vampires, zombies, princess, super heros and some of you have fur-babies dressed as hot dogs, ghosts and Yoda (you know you’ve seen that one) or whatever they may be… bring them to the Pixels On Paper portrait studio on October 31st between 3pm-7pm for a quick mini-shoot! Sessions will be outdoors (just like the ones in the picture) and be about 15 minutes in length. The fee is $15 for up to 3 children. More than 3, the fee is $10 per additional child. You will receive online viewing of the pictures, and a special 10% off print rate.

Rates for Halloween prints before the discount:

Set of 8 wallets: $10 | 5×7: $12 | 8×10: $20 | 11×14 mounted on styrene: $40

Want to know the best part? Simply bring in your receipt from the session when you reserve your spot for your family session and you will receive $25 off your session fee for your family portrait session! Essentially, you are getting this Halloween session free!

The fine details: First come, first serve. Children and pets must be in costumes. This is not a family session, sorry. No additional discounts apply.

You are welcome to just show up, but it would be much easier if you could either call us 336-990-0080 or email misty@pixelsonpaper.biz to reserve your spot so we know how much treats to have for the kiddie-o’s!

We look forward to seeing you!
