We blog to share and we blog for our business.
SEO, client outreach, project features and other promotions are important for our survival as a creative company.
But this is Christmas and the culmination of a tough year. So instead of talking about professional photography, Ryan and I would just like to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Peace to each of you.
Our plan for the next two weeks or so is to hug each other, relish down time with our son and close family, count our blessings and focus on getting some rest before the new year arrives. We have this same wish for all of you.
Take time for peace, for quiet if you can find it, for reading and naps, for calls with those far away who would like to hear “I love you,” and be sure to take care of yourselves. We love and appreciate you all.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Pixels On Paper will be photographing outdoor Christmas Mini Portrait sessions this year. Who’s in?
It’s the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR, even if 2020 has been, well……. and we’re all a bit disoriented. Find some normalcy by getting in the spirit for Christmas with a portrait session.
WHEN: Saturday, December 12th.
WHERE: We’ve created a Christmas themed backdrop in our outdoor portrait garden.
HOW: We will of course be following all CDC and local protocols with regard to safe distancing during the entirety of the session. We will wear masks, and shoot all images outside. If you have special requests in terms of safety, please let us know.
WHAT: Contact Pixels On Paper to reserve your session and see pricing at the end of the blog.
We have a large backdrop, fully loaded with seasonal decor, plenty of props that will be wiped down between sessions, and even a small (and cute, if I may say so) station for images of your little elves.
Our son Finley got a kick out of it and he lives here, so our hope is that you will make a plan to schedule your session with us as soon as possible. It’s one day only, December 12th!

… as in YOUR home and yes, we are offering this again this year. We’ve received a few queries from those interested and we have a health and safety plan in place we have been using with summer and fall shoots. If God is willing and the creek don’t rise, we can do this. Who’s in?
Above are just a sampling of the sweet York family from last year after welcoming their daughter Tinleigh into a home filled with boys. But this idea originated a few years ago when Ryan and I were reminiscing about the fact that some of our favorite childhood photographs are taken at Christmas. We’ve celebrated this idea since with documentary and in home holiday session, and in more than a few blogs.
The Spillmans (above) welcomed son Barrett a few years ago and we loved capturing his first Christmas at home.
So what is involved?
First, we are not changing our prices nor have we since this idea took off.
Second, we will of course follow all CDC and local protocols with regard to safe distancing during the entirety of the session; we will wear masks, and shoot images outside if the weather continues its warm trajectory. If you have specials requests in terms of safety, please let us know.
The fee of $125 is due when you make your reservation. We will provide 5 digital images for families with up to 3 children. This includes the printing rights along with the option to purchase prints, cards, and gifts. Pets and additional children or family members are welcome for an additional $25. Call 336-990-0080 to reserve or email inquiries to mail@pixelsonpaper.net.

Yes, it’s Prime ordering season, pardon the pun, and I’ll never shame any of us for making our lives easier by saving money ordering from a mammoth company because there’s free shipping. No shade throwing here.
But (you knew it was coming), this has been a year like no other that most of us have seen, and small businesses need us now more than ever. Shop local when you can. Buy from people you see at church, went to school with, are your neighbors (masks and all) because we appreciate your business more than you could possible know.
Before you decide on purchasing things that will get smashed, lost, ignored or summarily tossed aside by February 1st, I hope you’ll think about a gift of memory, history and love: give portraits, keepsake boxes, canvases and memory books!
If you have been a client of Pixels on Paper for any type of portrait session, then any of your photos can be designed for Christmas cards. You do not have to be wearing a reindeer sweater.
Another very popular gift item is our proof collection box. It’s a keepsake box with a 4 x 6 print of every image from their portrait session included in the box (see the first image at the opening of this blog).
Photo books as well as framed prints or canvases make AMAZING, memorable presents for parents, grandparents, siblings and friends. People tend to focus on wedding and newborn portraits, but we have photographed so many families, high school and college friendships, couples before, during and after the arrival of a baby, and siblings through various phases of life that we hope you’ll think outside of a simple framed image and provide a real packaged heirloom for someone you love.
Every year, I make a photo album as a Christmas gift for each set of grandparents. They get all the portraits of Finley packaged nicely and frankly, it’s what they want the most. Consider that before you buy a bunch of socks, subscriptions and non-recyclable, soul-sucking “things.”
And finally, we have gift cards and these make wonderful gifts as well. Pregnant daughter or daughter in laws all need a maternity, newborn, 6 month and one year portrait session.
Food for thought, dear ones! Be in touch.

We love this tribe so much. The York family invited Ryan into their home for a Christmas portrait shoot recently and they were ready to roll. Sweet little newcomer, Tinleigh, is celebrating her first Christmas so photos by the tree were a must.
Parents Mitch and Lindsey have two other children, sons Turner and Tate who were excited to get a little sister this year. My guess is that on this particular night they were even more excited about the promise of Santa and gifts to come and the fire pit where they gathered later.
This is such a sweet and fun way to celebrate the holidays and we aren’t always able to be outside during the winter months. I hope the Yorks will continue to have some element of their Christmas celebration by the fire pit every year.
