I say it all the time, but with all that we endured during quarantine and Covid lock-down, it seems like these babies are growing up even faster. This is the third time we’ve photographed this little cutie, and now Gracelynn is six months old. She came to the orchards with an entourage, a steamer trunk filled with costume changes and a sparkling personality. All of it was right on time.
This is our third time photographing Gracelynn, including her newborn session and a family session. We also photographed mom Caitlin’s maternity portraits. Along with Caitlin and Gracelynn, father Matthew and grandmother Tabitha were in attendance to help with the many outfit changes and generally just to enjoy the day. This little girl is adorable, so filled with personality and always ready to give us great expressions.
I loved getting special photos of Tabitha and Gracelynn. This young gramma is over the moon to have a new grandchild in her life.

Somehow, six months blew by and suddenly there we were, right back where we photographed Mom and Dad (Macy and Jesse) for their maternity session. This time, they had their daughter Astrid, a freshly minted six month old, in tow and looking adorable.
It was a REALLY COLD and windy the morning we gathered, but the views on top of the mountain were incredible and the blooms on the apple trees lent themselves to the day. Astrid is the sweetest little thing and while she didn’t appreciate the temperature, much less the views, she perked up when she could be snuggled between her adoring parents.
Often, after children enter the picture, parents will shy away from having images taken of just them as a couple. We loved that Macy and Jesse wanted some of these portraits and we encourage other parents to remember this. Before there were little versions of you, there was just you. That should be celebrated too!
It was a beautiful day with a beautiful young family in a pretty spectacular spot. I would say that is satisfying all around. We love it when families find a location that they love and return to it to mark special occasions, milestones or just because images.

Liam’s one year portrait session was not only fun in its theme – Maurice Sendak’s famous children’s book: Where The Wild Things Are – but it was perfectly suited to this young man. Liam LOVES being outside and was more than happy to play in the dirt and leaves, wandering and exploring during our session. We met up on the beautiful farm property owned by his grandparents. And then the wild rumpus began!
The entire family collaborated to build a teepee on the site and Liam’s paternal grandmother painted the “wild thing” picture displayed in the background. While we created a wild, wilderness setting, having the warmth of the whole clan made it feel special. NOTE: If your child shows a particular preference or interest, we are game to incorporate elements and make a party out of the photo session. First birthdays are a big deal and we are expert (if I may say so) at creating birthday portrait sessions that celebrate who your kiddo is at this age. Plus: it’s FUN!
Like many of our clients, we’ve photographed Liam’s family, the Tevepaughs, many times. (They are family in fact.)
Check out Liam’s newborn and six month portraits to see even more cuteness.

Currently, our son is testing me as much as delighting me. If you know, you know. They go from soft little bundles to opinionated, frustrated, little testers. I laugh, smile and pray some days, and cry, search for my sanity, and pray others. But I stay the course. Discipline, repetition, consistency, guidance, cuddles, consequences, and did I mentioned prayer? Those are all part of this child-rearing season for me.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I wanted to revisit some favorite maternity portraits I’ve taken and remind myself that the journey is not one chapter. And so much of motherhood is a series of miracles. Enjoy!
Outdoor maternity portraits – including those with gowns, siblings, flowers, vistas, whatever – are an elegant way to capture motherhood. I know from the ladies you see in these images, that many of the portraits became gifts.
These mamas are perfect. They are all on this motherhood journey at the moment, and while the days are long and the years are short, there’s no better role to play than that of Mom.

When I am feeling tired, and I have been lately, I think about the newborns I’ve photographed. They are not lying underneath a hefty burden of 21st century cares yet. They aren’t worried about making ends meet, people pleasing, child rearing, personal growth or daily discipline. They don’t even know how to speak or count. They lay their perfect little heads down to sleep and, I hope, dream the loveliest little butterflies of dreams. I am not world-worry when I see their faces, but renewed. I look at each one and pray for safe-keeping and love throughout their lives. Here are a mere few favorites.
“No day is so bad it can’t be fixed with a nap.” — Carrie Snow
“My mother told me to follow my dreams, so I took a nap.” — Unknown
“I love to sleep. Do you? Isn’t it great? It really is the best of both worlds. You get to be alive and unconscious.” — Rita Rudner
“In dreams, we enter a world that’s entirely our own.” – Steven Kloves
“When we are asleep in this world, we are awake in another.” –Salvador Dali
“A dream is a wish your heart makes, when you’re fast asleep.” – Walt Disney
