Ryan and I have such a loyal group of clients and followers, that we feel like people already know who we are and what we do. For those of you who perhaps do not know us, please allow me to introduce myself. Pixels on Paper captures milestones and memories through portraits, helps small and large businesses with commercial photography, branding and design, and covers both personal life events as well as public events.
We started with weddings nearly two decades ago, but soon loved that the photos that come before and after a big milestone are just as precious. So Ryan and I shoot images of newborns, 6 month and first birthday portraits, images of siblings and families as the kids grow, senior portraits, prom and graduation portraits.
Some of my favorites portrait sessions are those where I’m capturing expectant mothers. Ask anyone.
As a couple, we are all about our family and our extended families, so we understand – even emphasize – the importance of getting professional family portraits taken over the years. Children grow up fast, family reunions are planned and need commemorating and sometimes, just a trip to the park needs documenting.
We are never happier than when we’re behind the lens, in natural light, mixing it up with new parents and new babies, big families, couples in love or “about to be graduates.” Regardless of season, we are photographers. Heads up for our next blog about the more commercial work we do for businesses, entrepreneurs and communities.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborns and families, special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

The new school year means a new crop of seniors and a chance to mark time. We love this season of the year for the change in weather, the fresh start it represents, and the fact that it gives us a chance to capture images of seniors and families.
We recently posted some favorite senior portraits in our last blog and reviewing these reminded us of so many other siblings, families and mere kids we’ve watched move from childhood to young adulthood. It’s a specific period in one’s life and parents always tell us how grateful they are to have professional portraits of their “babies” … just about to embark on the next chapter.
Setting up a family portrait can feel more work to plan, often because we are all spread out. That said, families find it easier once they simply start a conversation, corral those family members who are hardest to pin down, and set a date. Honestly, it’s a breeze once you decide that it’s important.
The leaves will be turning soon so let’s start scheduling!

We know you’re still tending sun burn, tired muscles from outdoor play, and getting sand out of …….. places, if you took a last summer trip over the holiday weekend. Welcome home and time to plan for those of you with high school seniors. It’s time for portraits! If you have a student, student-athlete, an artistic adult in the making, or just a senior with a new fall wardrobe they want to show off, we’re ready to capture a pretty important milestone.
We are scheduling fall senior portraits now. Contact us and let’s begin scouting locations, choosing a theme or style if you have one and making a plan.

Today is Labor Day and my mind turns to what this day is about: we, who work. It seems that, often in this country, we focus on the deeds of a well-publicized few…. and a bit too much, in my humble opinion. We train our eyes on a select few segments of people in this world. Meanwhile, there are over 7 billion of us on this spinning orb, and, as Walt Whitman proclaimed, we “contain multitudes.” This day is about those who do daily, unseen, uncelebrated and often underappreciated. It’s a chance to give all of us doers – a break.
But the last 18 months have been difficult for anyone who must labor to earn, live, support, and survive, so today is even more special. So here is my prayer for us all.
If you have worked consistently over the last 18 months, congratulations and well done. There were so many losses this year and you survived it. You need rest, and of course gratitude. Find rest today.
If you’ve been out of work, try not to let it crush your spirit. There will be opportunities, and there are new ones daily. What do you love to do? What do you want for yourself and your family? People are choosing new paths during this time of uncertainty, and with great outcomes. You need hope. Don’t just dine on anxiety and fear. Reach out for help. And today, I wish you a new sense of hope.
If you love what you do for work or a career, celebrate today. There are many who may never do the work they dream about, but if you are a lucky one who does have their dream job, ….. say it out loud today. “I love what I do and I’m grateful!” Find a way to celebrate today.
Finally, if you are at the beginning of something brand new – be it personal or professional – you need joy. The beginnings of journeys and adventures are pure potential. Embrace all of that joy that comes from a new start. Find joy today and bring it with you into your new enterprises.
Today, Ryan and I wish you all whatever it is you seek, be it work, rest, hope, celebration, or joy. But most of all, we wish you peace. Happy Labor Day.

We’ve grown Pixels’ portfolio of offerings as we’ve continued to calibrate our lives over the last few years. We’ve shaped our lives, as you all have, to new normals and even newer normals, all while we try to rear a toddler, adjust our time management techniques and add new skill sets.
As you all know, Ryan is our graphic designer – as well as my husband, baby-daddy, and wonderful photographer. Recently, he’s been updating some design applications for existing graphic design clients and adding dynamism to the designs he’s created already.
A year ago, he worked on a project for our client in Asheville at the Words Communications by rebranding her business with a new logo treatment. Most recently, he added several animated gif concepts.
Several years ago, Ryan developed a branding logo for Fionix Consulting that they loved, and recently added an animated gif to their graphic design and branding mix.
I love sharing these new additions to our services at Pixels. We are professionals who capture milestones and create heirlooms, but we are also hungry creative types, always looking for ways to help our corporate, entrepreneurial and commercial clients.
